Refinishing roof

Folks in the Safari Trek community use Brightsides marine paint and swear by it.

Used Rust-Oleum Marine Topside. Cleaned, light sanding, Rust-Oleum Marine Primer and then 2 coats of Topside. Should stay cleaner and help with heat from the sun. It has a UV component so we'll see with time. I also painted the shower sky light. It was a great source of heat from the the sun. Never understood why it was dark smoke colored.

This paint feels a little like a plastic coating so it must have a lot of solids, very high gloss.

Very nice work. I was happy with my roof this past spring. It’s holding up very well.

Thanks...It'll be interesting to see how long it last on the sky light. Since it's a plastic I'm thinking it will hold as well as the fiberglass. I also painted the eternabond which is paintable. Hope the primer works well.

I did mine this past winter. scotch-brite pad with soap and water to remove dirt and residue. rinse and let dry. 2 coats rust-o-leum topside. no primer needed.

People have died falling off their RV roofs. I would be sure to not make yours any slicker.

Marine topside paint won't be slick, they expect you to be walking around on the boat - out in the middle of the ocean where you REALLY don't want to fall off.

That's what I thought going into this project but the TopSide paint isn't any slicker than the fiberglass was before painting. Rust-Oleum offers an abrasive to mix with the paint if desired. if I thought I was going to fall I'm close enough to the garage structure to grab part of the framing.

the top side is not a high gloss. I've been on my roof since the application and it is not a skating rink. as far as putting the abrasive in the coating, I believe you will trap more dirt on the roof. and it would also make it more difficult to clean in the future.
