Paper towel issue
We have a paper towel holder I need to mount on the bottom of the overhead cabinet above the counter due to lack of space. Screws don't work because the cabinet base is hollow behind thin plywood. I tried the double sided adhesive that came with it as well as gorilla double sided tape and they won't stay affixed. How are others ataching their towel holders?

Maybe you don't agree but I'd just get a vertical one and put it on the counter top. You can just stick it in the sink when you travel.

Key question: Is double sided tape separating from holder or cabinet? My guess would be cabinet (porous).
If so, my fix would be to a apply a strip of Eternabond (cut just undersize of holder) to bottom of cabinet. Surely you've got a roll of it right. If not, get one, you'll be amazed at how often you grab it for various projects ... beyond roof leak sealing.
Then use high load rated 3M Command Strips to attach holder to the Eternabond. Get strips long enough to cover the full width of the holder, front to back or as close you can. Put "pull tabs" of the command strips to rear of holder so they're not visible. Then you can remove/replace holder later if needed/desired. Will be shocked if that combo ever loosens on you.
Let us know if you try and how it works out.
Regards,
Lou

This is what we have.
Put it in a cupboard while traveling.

khodgens-
The cabinet bottoms are hollow because they run wiring in there. Be careful anytime you drill there.
In some cases you can remove the inner cabinet panel to access the hollow space. Small staples usually hold the panels down.
I replaced under-cabinet lights with LEDs above the sink and the couch, so screws through the thin plywood can work.
Here are a couple other methods:
- attach the holder to a piece of plywood, then attach the plywood to the cabinet using numerous small screws along its edge. Sometimes you can size the plywood to hit a piece of wood structure inside the hollow space. Look for where Monaco placed the staples on the outside of the cabinet panels.
- use plastic thin-panel inserts (the kind you might use to hang a picture)
When I bought my coach, a prior owner had installed a paper towel holder above the sink using screws. After a while, I realized how much it blocked the light and air from the window. I removed it an used a weighted holder made by OXO after that.

One more vote for the countertop solution.
By the way, the wetbay is another location for a towel holder. I probably use as many there as in the kitchen!

It is only a paper towel holder, some kind of anchor like a toggle bolt won't work?
Not sure why your sticky idea won't work. 3M Command if using enough should hold just fine on finished plywood.
Are you cleaning both surfaces with denatured alcohol?

I didn’t realize over the door hangars were available, so thank you, Hamm2018, for posting the link.
I didn’t order that one, but found this one instead:
iDesign Axis Metal Over the Cabinet Paper Towel Bar for Kitchen, Pantry, Mudroom, 5.2" x 1.2" x 12", Bronze https://a.co/d/gLi06Oq
I would spend a whole lot less money if I stopped reading irv2….. 😉

Screw to another flat item/panel ,grind off screws and two side tape that up. Skip any outward puckering from screws with tape.

I second the weighted upright holder. I put mine on a non skid pad and it doesn't move when I travel.

Please don’t take this the wrong way but if only my problem with our coach was a paper towel holder! Btw, the guy who owned ours screwed it to the cabinet right above the stove. I will be taking it off on our first trip.

Toggle Bolts and Molly bolts need a lot of clearance to insert and expand.
