Park brake switch is sometimes preventing me from leveling

Hi, my name is ''G'' and we have an´06 Monaco Diplomat and our park brake switch is sometimes preventing me from leveling. I took it out and the number is Nason SM-IC-66R/WP28, but I´m told that other motorhomes of our same brand have Nason SM-2B-85R, I´m having trouble finding one, can you tell me if I can buy any other switch number/brand to replace this one ?

Thanks Gudjon,, ''G''

Hi G! Please explain how the park brake switch would keep you from leveling?

Joe & Annette, Thanks for your reply, when I turn on the leveling board the engage park brake light will blink and nothing will work until I have released and set the park brake many times and sometimes I have to start up and get the air pressure up. Yesterday I unplugged the switch and plugged it in again and all worked fine. Today I needed to turn the motorhome on and the jacks came up so we had to relevel.

Yup, it sounds like it's either a bad connection on the switch or it's defective. I would try plugging and unplugging the wires or wiring harness on the switch several times. Sometimes connections can oxidize and get what we term a "high-resistance" connection. Plugging and unplugging can clean the connections and get it to working again.

I have a Windsor and I know the Sm-1C-66r/WP28 is correct for mine, at least. I just purchased one from Monaco parts.

If your switch has that same # on it, you'll be fine.

Short term you can wire a manual override switch across the contacts of the pressure switch. Close the switch to complete the circuit to simulate the parking brake being on.

I just did this to allow me to manually control the air leveling to get up my driveway.

Gudjon,

We also own a 2006 Diplomat and became frustrated with the short life of the parking brake switch. We did an investigation of the circuit and wrote a white paper on how the system works, what is happening and a more reliable substitution for the Nason switch. We are almost three years on our substitute switch now and have not had one problem. Here is the white paper if you are interested.

Thanks for the white paper - it worked for me (regarding park signal for leveler). I couldn't find the Cole-Palmer switch (out of production), but found a Freightliner FSC-1749-1907 (70 psi, NO, SPST, 1/8" MNTP) on ebay for about $8. Also a box of 6 relays with harnesses for $12 on Amazon.
Just thought I'd share the update.

Henry,

Glad you found the paper helpful and were able to find a substitute pressure switch.
