Parts For Canadians

If you are an American just scroll through. You do not want to know about the problems Canadians have getting parts. I am fortunate that we winter in Mexico and the Southwest. Amazon and ebay get lost of my $$. But with the pandemic things are different. WE do have Ebay but the freight is ridiculous. Before the US border was closed I could have parts shipped to North Dakota and pick them up at a parcel house. Usually free freight. They charge 5 to 10 dollars. Many Canadians that live within 75 miles of the border do the same. Amazon Canada is a rip off. If the item you want has to come from the US the cost is ridiculous. RV parts in Canada are more like trailer only parts. Finding parts for an Aqua Hot are almost impossible. RV dealers carry some common parts but at almost double the US price. I have parts shipped to Tucson from RocK Auto while we were in the SouthWest. Recently I discovered that Rock Auto has a special arrangement with Fedex. It is similar to ebay's International service but without the expensive freight. Your parcel comes with freight, all taxes and fees included. Very inexpensive. Rock Auto does not carry RV parts but they have common items like relays, oil pressure senders, ignition switches, some chemicals, wiper blades, etc. Way cheaper than Wal Mart or Ebay. My 09 Silverado needed a new left side door weatherstrip. It covers both doors and GM wants about $200+ in Canada . Maybe $140 in the US. Rock Auto had a good quality aftermarket piece for $44.00 US and the other charges were about $15.00. Delivered to my door in 5 days!

Do you also have to pay import duties when you have stuff shipped from the US to Canada? Seems like thatís been an issue when I bought stuff in Canada and had it shipped here so I donít do that anymore.

Being using Rock Auto for quite awhile. Usually better pricing then anything I can find local even with the freight.

It all depends on how it's shipped. I never had to with Rock Auto or I should say it's included in the freight charge for a very reasonable cost I guess.

If I am going to buy something from a supplier in the US that only gives UPS as an option I move on to someone else. UPS is the worst for brokerage fees. I think I had to pay it on a package shipped by DHL once as well but it was nothing like UPS.

Most items have no duty. But there taxes. GST and PST. If UPS is the carrier they charge an outrageous amount to clear customs.

I buy all my OE Honda motorcycle parts out of Ohio and all my Mercedes parts out of Annapolis, MD. I've had good luck with RV stuff in Canada or with Amazon but you do have to watch the prices. What I find annoying is how any American can just go the corner store to buy stuff that even our Home Depot's don't have!

Always something either place...DW's Eliquis is $1,500 here, but shipped in from Edmonton about $380.

Crazy world for sure.
