Pop out Windshield

The windshield on our 2006 30pdd came out of the gasket at the top. Wind whistling was a tipoff! Glass shop was able to pull it back into place using a suction cup and ratchet strap, and re-urethane the windshield. He made it clear no guarantee, and the repair could well be temporary. He had dealt with the situation before, and in talking with a Monaco dealer body shop felt the problem was flexing of the front cap, often caused by the coach "twisting" while entering driveways, etc. Our coach had been towed a month or so before, which could have provided the "twist."

Body shop said the only certain repair was to pull the windshield and front overhead cabinets, and structurally rebuild the non-existent cap support. Then seriously cement a new gasket to the cap and windshield. Don't even ask the price on that!

Any experience and/or comments? (BTW, the 2006 has a single mega-windshield)

Ours popped out last fall, took it to Lazydays for repair. They were able to work it back in place and seal in about 2 hours. They said all brands, all lengths have popouts, none mores than others. Ours was not sealed in channel, now it is. They said sealing keeps the windshield in better, but makes the windshield more likely to crack when torqued.

Thanks for the info. If it's glued in , and cracks, it's an insurance issue. If it pops out, and doesn't break, my guess it's on me! Now we know what to watch for (I've painted an indicator line next to the gasket,) we'll continue our travels and deal with what happens.

I popped my windshield out on our 99 dip by leveling incorrectly but was able to work it back in about 10 yrs ago.

From what I know of my friend Walt, he could change a tire with a soup spoon and a rubber mallet, and do a beside-the-road engine rebuild with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver. Us "normal" folk may have a bit more trouble.

Van I wish I was that good, at my age I am having trouble remembering the little that I knew when I was younger.
