Portable refrigerator/freezer

I'm looking to add a portable refrigerator/ freezer into on of my bay's. It looks like the best buy for the money is the Edgestar 63qt. or the 80qt. With all the choices available I would welcome any input folks may have on any of the units out their. The edgestar and the whynter units look identical, does anyone know if they are the same manufacture?

We purchased a Dometic 85qt and it works great. Holds 3 cases of beer easy. Each in a separate bin.

ARBusa.com, also check Amazon, Ebay, most all offroad/expedition shops.

One of my expedition buddies has had his for 20 years.

Note: The automatic voltage selection option is newer technology; beware if you are buying an older model.

AC/DC Frig/Freezer

I have used an 85qt Whynter for nearly 2 years. AC/DC works great and temperature settings have been right on the money. I did have a gotcha
regarding the height of the unit in that it does not fit under my frame rails. I put the unit on the passenger side sliding storage tray and when I try to pull the tray out on the other side, it bumps into the frame rail. Very poor planning on my part (oh, I could blame my wife.......NOT!). I understand from a friend that there are units that now have separate controls/compartments for frig & freezer. We have never had an issue with that and it has served us very well. Now that we have a larger Residential Refer (replaced the "NotCold"), we don't have as much of a need for aux. freezer space so I have been thinking about downsizing and try and get under my frame rail. Just a thought....bryan

I have two Dometic 32qt. Use one for the beer and a few other necessities and the other for an extra freezer. Had them for two years and they work great.

We've used two Engels on our boat for years. One as a freezer, one as a beer cooler. Have been bullet proof. Use 2.3 amps DC, have run in any sea state, and I think could freeze fire!! One has been outside under cover (beer cooler) since 2005, exposed to salt air, and runs great with no rust anywhere. They are not the cheapest out there but IMHO, are great!!

We've had an Engel 63 qt for 3 years. Works great once I changed both power cords.

It been used year round, the original cords made it 2 years.
