Potential hydraulic hose failure--2000 Dynasty

While crawling under the coach to measure for a bike lift installation, I stumbled across something that would have been a real problem sooner or later. On my 2000 Dynasty 36 (Oregon build) there is a hydraulic hose running from the passenger side of the coach and directly under the engine oil pan going to the radiator fan. There was a stud welded to the receiver hitch/engine mount assembly that was meant to support the hose. Since there was a support on either side of that location, the support stud was not used.

Over a period of years, that unused welded bolt had rubbed its way through the hose and reached the wire reinforcement. Hose was not leaking, but would have been before long.

I have since heard from an owner with a near-identical coach that he had EXACTLY the same situation.

The fix is simple. Use a chisel and heavy hammer to break the weld and remove the stud. Then use a file to smooth out the area near the hose.

If anyone else inspects their coach and finds this same problem, please report it here. Thanks.

You need to put some anti oxidant on the wire shield and wrap it with rubber tape. If it rusts trough it will not hold pressure and the line will leak/blow out.

Good find. It saves a lot of grief to get under and around a couple of times a year.

Van, I have seen that identical problem on two Monaco Signatures. It happened on mine and as already I cut a piece of rubber and wrapped the hose and put a new clamp on it. I first took the rubber off the clamp and sprayed it with Rustoleum and then put it back on and sprayed the stud and nut and clamp where attached with more paint. time will tell.
