Rad and cac removal and rebuild

Rad in my 2001 HR Ambassador 34, w/Cummins isb started weeping this summer. Not bad, I never had to add coolant but you could see evidence of coolant at the joints between the core and tanks.

No complaints on the cac but it had to come out to get the rad out and I know they tend to fail at this age so sent them both in for rebuild. I sent them to a good reputable shop, recommended to me by a buddy who owns a vehicle repair shop and who i trust, and today they quoted 4,000 canadian for the rad and 2,500 can for the cac. (3,100 and 1,800 ish us). I checked around a bit online and found these kind of numbers to be pretty common now.

I heard new, someone found one for 15k but shopped around and got one for 9. If that’s true these numbers are not out of line. I checked with a couple of other shops but they won’t quote without me taking the rad to them and I am tempted to just tell the shop to go ahead.

Any thoughts? Pics attached.

These folks bought a bunch of complete assembly rad/cac's when Monaco shut down in Indiana (Elkhart/Wakarusa). They still had a few when I was there looking around a while back.

I know a couple of folks bought from them. Don't know the price but surely way less than what you are talking about. Probably not listed on the website, they have lots of big stuff that you just have to call on. Good Luck!

I guess I’m confused on what your numbers are related to, brand new or rebuilding what you have…..
