Rad/Coolant Hoses
All,
I need to replace the coolant hose that connects the coolant fill tank to the engine block. The old one is cracked and leaks. It is 1.25" ID and is about 39" long. I can only find this diameter hose in 3 feet lengths, which is not long enough.
I would like to get the Blue Silicone Hose that in have seen online but again, can only find it in 3 feet sections. My old hose is curved but I know that a 4 foot section of straight hose would work fine.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.

Why not join two sections together to make up your 4' hose? Also check with NAPA or other parts places that deal in bulk length hose.

Get a short piece of exhaust tubing and splice two shorter ones together. We do it all the time on our sand rails. Truck supply houses may have longer lengths.

NAPA has coolant hose connectors on the shelf (or behind the counter at my local store), basically barb fittings that take a hose clamp. Don't know if they have 1.25" if that is the I.D., I'm guessing the i.d. is smaller than that. If they don't have them, ask where or if they can order them. They also come in angles- 135, 90. this is a great way to fit up one of those perplexingly convoluted molded hoses.
If you use exhaust tubing (steel) as described above, put a 7 year replacement memo on your to-do list. Standard tubing will have lousy plating & cheap metallurgy, and will likely rot over time. On Alpines there is a long steel tubing connector between the rear of engine & front of the side radiator famous for rotting out.

You can get the barb fitting you need from Ace Hardware -- I carry one as a spare in case of a hose rupture -- Bill Willard

Hose
Go to your friendly Orielly Auto Parts store. They will have their DC order it directly from Gates in the length you want.

I was talking about aluminized exhaust tubing. Sorry for not specifying.

f your coolant tank is mounted to the frame or body supports then the hose must be flexible. Straight rad hose might not be the best choice. Gates has a Green Stripe hose that is perfect for that application. I think the lengths are 6 ft. NAPA carries it under their own name. I would not use silicone hose. Tends to leak. You need special clamps.

Sorry I missed this, but if you don't have the hose yet it is.... NAPA 605 Whiteline 1 1/4.

Thanks. I ended up getting Gates Green Stripe #24220 but it also only comes in 3 ft lengths so I took the advice earlier in this thread and picked up a barb fitting hose connector and plan on making my own 4 foot piece of hose. I assume that the only way to refill the system with coolant is via the overflow tank because I cannot locate a radiator cap of any kind.
