Radio replaced with GPS ?
'05 Monaco Beaver Santiam PDQ
Has anyone replaced their in-dash radio with a GPS unit ? Can it be done? I've noticed on some RV's there is a GPS where my radio is located.
I normally sing to myself when I'm on the road so I don't really need a radio. Just kiddin' !

There are many posts on the in dash , factory installed , navigation systems their cost , ease of use and re-programming .
There is a lot of personal choice/preference involved .
JMHO: Being able to pass the GPS ( RM 720 in my case ) over to my DW for re-programming while driving , while she's belted in , is better than having her on her hands and knees working on the in dash unit; or me taking my eyes off the road for extended periods of time to push on the screen.

Radio replaced with GPS ?
The most important thing (strong opinion here) is to choose the vendor with the software that makes the most sense to you. For me, that is Garmin. Good maps and good directions are more important than how the GPS mounts in the vehicle. When you have chosen the software that works for you, explore the hardware options that support the chosen software. I think you will find that the portable units are superior in functionality. There are many mounting options for portable GPS receivers, limited only by your imagination. You get to keep your radio, too, if desired.
If, like Skip426 does, you like to be able to have your copilot reprogram while you are driving, Garmin has a smartphone app that will do it without removing the GPS unit from its mount. I assume other vendors have similar features.

Ours HAS a built in Garmin, but it is so low, IMHO, it is too dangerous to use you have to look down almost toward your feet to see it !
get a nice Garmin 760 or 770 that can be on top of the dash and it can be seen with just a glance.

I Installed a Combo Navigation/Radio, but...
I never use it. Instead, I use my iPhone to navigate, and we listen to music on the radio.
Go figure.
