This was done on a 2008 Camelot 42DSQ. The wife and I did not like the booth seating. The way the cushion curved, there was little room to sit, and a general waste of space. I have always used this space for my laptop, therefore I was always on the kitchen table. This is what it looked like from Monaco.

I had Chris Berry in Russellville, Alabama do the work. He specializes in Tiffin's and works in a shop behind his home about 20 miles from the plant.

First was to remove the booth.

Chris normally uses the Corian surface top, but he only had access to the Tiffin colors. While one was very colse, it was not perfect and the existing table would be an inch away. So, we opted for the Cherry wood top.

We found the chairs at a local furniture store. They are Thomasville. Here are the final pictures.

The desk is set up for the laptop as shown. Underneath is a roll out printer drawer. Under the table is storage with a shelf for the smaller items. The front drawers are for hanging files. The top drawer has all the manuals. The bottom has all the literature and information from places we have visited.

Notice how the end of the couch had to be finished off with a board as the couch was not finished from Monaco.

Project costs. Chris Berry was $1,150 for the desk and installation. Add $975 for the two dining chairs.

We are very pleased with this upgrade and it look soooooo much larger, and the space is much more useable.

We like the "after" also, we ordered our 2002 Dutch Star that way except reversed the arrangment from the standard so the computer tray was toward the front. Actually I very seldom use it now. I prefer the easy chair and height adjustable table with my laptop.

I intend to build such a unit for ours to replace the freestanding table (like the idea of no legs to the floor) but have a question. In crawling under tables at RV shows, I see the common method of supporting the table is by use of a metal frame that has metal tubes to secure to the coach wall that go down the wall to the floor, supports that go out under the table (to which are secured drawer glides so the table can slide out about a foot) and welded gussets to support the vertical to the horizontal metal tubes.

--Is that how yours works?

--Whatever table support you have was it re-used from your original dinette table or is it new as part of your new table?

--Finally do you (or any readers of this) know where I can buy this hardware?

Mine does slide out about 14". The table was not modified from the way it came from Monaco. The desk was cut out for the table and slid over it and into place. Not sure how it is mounted, but super stable, even using the table when getting up from the chair.

We have the same coach and have been planning to do this in a few months. Its hard to tell but did the cherry desk match pretty close the existing wood in the coach?

Real nice job. How long did it take? Is that a custom made desk or a modified commercial desk. You mention the desk was cut out for the table.

The cherry wood is lighter upon installation. He told us not to set anything on the top for six weeks allowing it to naturally darken. It now matches the rest of the coach. You can see what I mean by opening up a cabinet door and look where the wood overlaps the frame and not exposed to light. That wood will be lighter than the surrounding wood.

On the length of time. I went to the builder, Chris Berry, and he took all the measurements and made sure we were on the same page as far as drawers, depth of the cabinet, electrical plugs, and the like. I made an installation appointment at the time for about 3-4 weeks in the future. When I went for the installation, he had the frame, doors, and top finished in bare wood. Brought it out and did some test fitting and adjusting. Monaco's angles were not precisely 90 degrees! The installation took about 8 hours, however it was over two days. He has 50 amp hookup at his shop, so I just camped out there.

The desk is 100% custom to my requirements.
