Repair of shower handle in Dynasty

Two or three showers ago, I pulled the "chrome" handle (grab handle) (vertical chrome plastic handle that can hold the shower head) out of the bottom support. I used to hold onto the vertical handle so my feet/foot would not slip as I step out of the shower. I discovered that the handle is simply inserted in a whole in the top and bottom brackets. I apparently bowed the handle out enough that the bottom end popped out of its bracket. Now, I can't easily simply bend it and put it back in. I think that I am going to have to remove either the top or bottom bracket, reinsert the handle in its slot and then re-attach the top or bottom bracket.

However, I see no way to remove the covers. The covers on the top and bottom bracket appear to be chromed plastic covers. There are no screws or hex screws that are holding them on. I am assuming that I simply pry them off by inserting a screwdriver between the back shower wall and the outer covers and they will release, but before I crack them and have to replace the whole darn thing, I thought I should ask some of you who probably know.

What is your advice?

Gary

On our shower, we have a similiar bar. On the bottom side of the bottom bracket and on the top of the top bracket there should be a very small set screw. Ours was a slotted drive but very small. The bottom one was was more difficult to remove than the top one. When ours came apart under the same circumstances, the bottom piece broke where the screw goes through it, and I used epoxy to build up a repair for it and redrilled it. I installed stainless screws so they would stay cleaner longer. Hope this may help, Happy trails bert
