When we bought our coach a few years ago, we had the exact same situation with our captains chairs. We decided to replace them with new captains chairs. I'm not going to get into the brand.

What I will get into is the fact that the original chairs were great in every respect, except the upholstery on the seats were worn. Knowing what we know today, what we should have done was have the upholstery on the original chairs repaired/replaced.

Any local upholstery shop that works on repairing/replacing upholstery on cars, trucks, vans, boats, tractors, etc. can do the job.

photos of old and newly upholstered chairs

old chair(s) - you cannot truly see how bad the old chairs were. Black discoloration where the material was touched, cracks were starting in multiple places, and the layers of material were coming apart, separating and flaking.

new chair pics - we love the removable seat and headrest covers. We chose a very similar color.

I just spoke with a leather repair shop and they said they can fix both captains chair seat bottoms for $295 onsite.

I'll give them a ring when we bring the new coach home.

By the way those flex steel chairs look beautiful. I really like that rich brown leather.

@jmoffat,
John came to our motorhome while we were at the RV park and he removed the chairs. We did NOT have to move the motorhome or leave the motorhome at his shop. When he finished with the work he returned and re-installed the chairs.

This is a good discussion. I'm getting ready to update our captains chairs. Not sure whether to replace or recover. Even the foam and springs in mine have gone hard. How do I tell what brand the original chairs are (2004 Signature)?

For those of you that updated your chairs, are you happy with your decision or would you do it differently?
Have they held up well for the last 3 years?
Thanks

I would also like to replace the Captain and Co-pilot seats.

At some point a previous owner replaced both of them with seats that did not have the integral shouder harness and the dastardly sin of replacing the co-pilot seat with a pilot seat which has no foot rest! They made up for it by installing Air Ride, a HUGE plus++!!! but I still want a foot rest.

The seats are all electric Villa International, the color is Tumbleweed Buff and I would gladly trade for a footrest seat with integral shoulder harness in any color.

Find a competent upholstery shop and have them recovered. The seats you have noe are probably better than what you can buy. Had mine redone and they came out great.
