Replacing bedroom slide out rollers

One of my rollers for the bedroom slide out collapsed. Have order new ones from Manoco. Has anyone replace these rollers? Or have you had someone replace them? I figure that there is 3 inches that I can raise the slide up which would give me enough room to replace them. Best way to raise the slide that 3 inches? Any help would be appreciated.

Please post the make/model of your coach.

Does your floor plan have 2 slides in the bedroom? If so, Which slide is it? Is it the slide the bed moves on? If so, lift the bed, remove the 1/8" luan bottom of the storage area under the bed. Things will be very obvious :-)

I slide a slide out and then jack it up with a 4x4 and a floor jack. If I need to do both sides for an extended period I replace the 4x4/floor jack with another 4x4 the length of the combo, and then do the same thing on the other side.

I just used some wood and a floor jack. Make sure you put wood between the floor jack and the bottom of the slide so you don't damage the bottom of the slide. I only had to jack my slide up about 1/2 inch. It was not very hard to change the roller. 2 bolts if i remember right.

It looks like I can do it. Was going to use a 2 x 6 or 10 across the top (floor) and with a 4 x4 and floor jack raise the slide up. As was said about 1 1/2 would be enough. Will let you know the results.

Can some one tell me the thickness of the floor? I'm thinking around 3/4".

Anyone know how to replace the inner rollers on the ends of the front slide extension arms? Lippert data says slide has to be removed. Elite in Harrisburg OR says they have a trade secret way to do it without removing the slide. I suspect it might involve tipping the slide up enough to let the end plates on the arms clear The slide out T mold. I also thought about drilling access hole into side of outer channel to allow removal of pin. Mine are ok for now but I would still like to make new ones out of metal and with bearings to reduce motor load.

Elite does tip the slide, so the arm will clear the slide -- About a 45 degree tilt -- They use a metal roller to replace the plastic/nylon orginal -- They did this to our Camelot -- William Willard

Thanks William,
That's what I thought. Looks like it would take that kind of angle to clear the flange on the end of the struts. I even thought of sawing the flange tops off and rewelding them after I put the struts back in. Or better yet, remake them to be removable. I have time to contemplate options though since mine seem ok for now. I am also thinking of making rollers to sit where the pfte ramps are and installing ss skis like yours.
Regards
Roy

Roy -- If you can come up with rolles in place of the plastic/nylon skid, I`m sure you would plenty of Monacoers wanting that fix -- Elite used a Habor Freight floor jack to tilt the slide -- They`re not that heavy-- Mine is about 15' & they raised it with ease, & has the refer in that slide -- William Willard

William,

I have been thinking about what would work best. It seems to me that rollers in place of the PFTE ramps would definitely be better. I am also going to look at the center section of the slide to see whether that would benefit from a roller as well - or maybe two or more spaced out to help carry the weight. I have been thinking about making them out of tubular material (such as DOM) with ball bearings pressed in counter bores in each end. These rollers could ride in a U - shaped bracket screwed to the floor - probably cut out of channel iron (4-6"). Design brainstorming welcome here!!
I was also thinking about the inside rollers - at the ends of the rails. I think these could also be made the same way. One thought I had was to cut the old ones out with a pneumatic hacksaw. The new ones could be made to slip into the end of the rail and then by some means, the axles could expand outwards to engage the holes in the rail. I have several ideas for how to make something like that, but also got to thinking that it might just be easier to tip the slide up to replace them like Elite does. Sounds like it isn't that hard although at initial thought sounds a little scary. I would definitely hate to dump my slide out into my driveway. I guess here is where good jacking procedure will be a must, with lots of cribbing.
Thanks for your thoughts. Definitely sounds like a worthwhile project.

Roy
