Replacing Bose System - Cabinet Issue

We love our Bose Lifestyle surround sound system, but I've spent $1,000 to fix it and it's do for another fix.

I've decided to buy a new system (Bose Lifestyle 600) and install it in the rig. I know that I'll have to make some compromises but it does have wireless rear speakers and subwoofer that will make it a little easier.

So, here is my question:

I will have to route some of the wiring through the cabinets on the driver side (above the driver side window) and copilot side (above the door and window). They are all of similar construction so I'll talk about the drivers side first.

The drivers side cabinet is about 32 inches wide. It has an 18 inch door that flips up. The storage area inside is about 17 inches wide. If I look to the left and right of the storage area there is a sealed in space of about 7 inches on each side. How do I get in there? How do I remove the wood that prevents me from accessing the dead space. Is there anything in there?

We are currently in our Florida hideaway, so I may jerry rig it here and do the final install when we are home in 8 weeks.

Pat

I replaced the RCA system in my coach with a standard receiver. I found that on the driver's side you can reach up and over that dead space. But, why would you need into the dead space? I'm trying to figure out what your ultimate goal is.

I'll tell you this, it was a tough job in my case. But in the end it was worth it. We will be full-timers soon, so I really wanted to have a good sound/movie system in the coach.

My cabinets are flush up against the ceiling. There is no reaching in to them. The reason why I need to get into the cabinets is that the Bose system has 5 speakers besides the subwoofer. Center, Front Left, Front Right, Rear Left and Rear right. They are mounted up into the bottom of the cabinets.

The original system has wiring that goes from the passenger side of the coach to the drivers side of the coach. I am sure it is buried very deep in the bowels of the coach. My replacement system would mount the main unit behind the TV and the front 2 speakers are wired to it. The rears and subwoofer are wireless and not a problem. Therefore I need to route the front wires to the 2 front speakers and their lies the problem. I can't open up the whole cabinet to route the wires and I'm hesitant to start drilling holes if I don't know what's in there.

Regardless, thank you for your response.

Pat

When you have stuff removed, look up in there and see if you have panels in the top that will unscrew and give you access. Mine does. Also, to get from the driver's to passenger's areas and vice versa, I have a panel that pulls off of the back of the TV cabinet that allows pass-through.
