Replacing hydraulic hoses on 2011 Monaco Diplomat 43 DFT

Has anyone had to replace the hydraulic hoses on their 2011 Monaco Diplomat 43 DFT? Who did you have do it? The shop we currently have ours in, just told us they cannot replace the hoses because how they are routed between the house and the lower storage units. We are looking for a company that can do it without taking it to Indiana to the manufacturer.

Yes, hoses are routed above the basement compartment.

But the ceiling in each compartment can be removed to expose the wiring/plumbing/hoses. They will be bundled together and it will be a chore to get the old one out and new one in. But it can be done.

If you can get the hose(s) that need to be replaced free from the rest of the bundle they may be able to use a union, attach the new hose to the old and pull the new one in. Use to do this on heavy off road equipment.

Why are the hoses being replaced???

Monaco Coach Corp filed for bankruptcy in Mar 2009. Navistar International purchased Monaco and manufactured coaches until they sold it to Allied Specialty Vehicles in 2013.
So your 2011 model coach was manufactured by Navistar.

Do you know what slide out system you have?
Monaco coaches were made with both HWH and Schwintek slide systems. If you have an HWH system they will work on your coach at their faculty in Moscow IA, but I'm not sure if Schwintek has a repair facility.
As you've seen Monaco routed cables, wires, and hoses through a portal tunnel between the house floor and the chassis down the center of the coach.
Finding someone to work on this is difficult because it requires working in a confined space that is difficult to access.

You can get access to this portal space by removing the appropriate basement ceiling panels. You then have to remove all zip ties and retainers to remove the hoses.
A technique some shops use is they attach the new hose to one end of the old hose and use the old hose to pull the new one through the tunnel.

Having explained all this are you sure you need a new hose? Could a connection be loose or require a new hose end?
I hope this helps.

I am having the same issue with my 2011 Knight. The front slide rams are over the fuel tank and all hose need to be replaced. They are also bundle and tie wrapped to other lines. The outer jacket on all of them is cracking and falling off. Anyone know of a shop in the southern half of Texas willing to pull in new hoses ?
Thanks

The outer jacket on hydraulic hoses is just for abrasion protection. If the jacket is failing does not necessary mean the hoses need to be replaced unless they are experiencing constant rubbing against something

i have done that. just get a lot of parker 1/4 plugs for the old lines and route the new ones thru where you can. take care to not run the lines near the auto heater lines from the engine to the front, or other heat sources. the existing lines are zip tied in numerous places and are almost impossible to remove. its a time consuming job to be sure. be sure to protect the hoses from areas where they can be rubbed against sharp edges.

Thank you everyone who responded so quickly.
I am concerned about hoses that cannot be reached chaffing and creating a leak. So, if anyone happens to have the hose lengths for all of the hydraulic hoses on a 2011 Monaco Knight PBQ 41' or similar model type please share? I need both slide-outs and 3-point stabilizers.
Thanks in advance!

J. Frazier did you resolve your issue with the hoses yet?
If so, did you get any lengths on the hoses?

On my coach all the hoses are wire braided. Even if the outer rubber covering wears off there is a wire braid that protects the inner rubber. Unless the hose is rubbing on something a lot (I meal like a saw back and forth continuously) it shouldn't fail.

There may be a small chance of a hose failing but I wouldn't recommend changing due to age.

I worked in underground mining, one the harshest environments. I've changed hundreds of hoses but it was from extreme wear or damage. We seldom changed a hose "just because" unless were we were doing a complete rebuild on a piece of equipment and had it tore down into pieces.

Your dime though.

many rv manufacturers made up their own hoses. they may have used different material from hwh. but if you have hwh hoses made by either parker or st gobains, they will not be wire braided. someone may have replaced one or more with that material, but not hwh.
you can order the hoses thru either parker or hwh, or i can help with the ordering, by length and diameter. i hope someone has the list of hoses, but doubtful.
i know i dont.
each hose has a white label on both ends of it that shows part number, length and diameter. maybe that will help.

I think the wire braid he is talking about is the layer under the outer rubber. What you are most likely referring to is a wire braid on the outside of the rubber covering. I have many rubber covered hoses with the outside cover deteriorated and still work but that exposed wire is what actually keeps the hose from bursting. Once the outer rubber covering is gone it will start rusting and loose its ability to hold the pressure. The high-pressure hoses will have two layers of that wire. The lower pressure ones will have just one. I made many for the hydraulic rear wheel assists for combines that had four braids but they were for the 5,000+ lb pressure.

sorry, ive been working on hwh since 1967.and full time for hwh from 1998. the factory does not use steel braided hoses, inside or outside. there may be instances where a customer has replaced factory hose with what you have described, but i have not found any with that configuration. i am one of a few that is authorized to make up hoses with hwh warranty. the hoses that i make up myself, do not contain wire braiding. maybe something aftermarket, but even the 6000 psi 1/8 parker hose that i buy from hwh in bulk, does not have any steel braiding.
you can verify that from hwh directly. dont take my word for it. i can provide a cross section photo of the hose i and hwh use if you want.
send me a text at 602 549 3638, and i can send you photos with pressure ratings and cross sections of the hose.

Thanks to everyone who has replied to my question about the hydraulic hoses

This is my response to everyone who has replied to my original email. Thank you all for your responses. I read each one and considered all to be valid. I have communicated with Rev Group Service Technician up in Indiana. They informed me that they DO NOT recommend trying to pull the old hoses out while pulling the new hoses through the channel. They recommend routing the new hoses through different openings and along the bottom. The Lazy Days RV Service Center here in Florida, recommended the same thing.

Many of you asked why was I doing this. The main reason is, one hydraulic started leaking. It leaked because it had rubbed on a the edge of the metal pump base. I had not noticed that it was rubbing. Plus the mess of hoses is like a bowl of spaghetti.

For now, I plan not to replace any other hose. I will only make sure they are free from rubbing. Both the Rev Group and Lazy Days would replace all the hoses if I request it, but the cost will be over 10,000. The Rev Group claimed they can do it cheaper, but I live in Florida and never travel to Indiana. So for now, I am going to keep my fingers crossed.

If anyone finds a company that is will and has the ability to replace them all for a more reasonable price, please let me know.
