According to this manual:
http://www.cumminsonan.com/www/html/...ets/a-1408.pdf
the generator we have, Onan 8000 watt Quite Diesel, would use 1.01 gallons of diesel at full load in one hour.

Assume two air conditioners are running with the compressor 50% of the time. That will average to about 1500 watts.

The Samsung will use about 400 watts when the compressor is running, which it does very little of.

Throw in another 1000 watts for good measure and other loads and that comes to 2900 watts if the Samsung ran 100% of the time. That is not even half power on the Onan 8000. The specification says the Onan will consume .49 gallons in an hour at half power. Thats about $2 an hour to keep cool/warm and have hard ice cream. Seems like a good deal to me.

I didn't buy this money hole to save money. If I want to save money I will sell it and stay home.

I guess you can tell you ruffled my feathers!

Bob

I didn't think much about the fuel usage when we stayed in Quartzsite, although I think your a little high on the price per gallon. Maybe when you looked at our fridge I forgot to mention the ice maker in the stowage bay that was cooling the beer, that now would throw off the numbers. I was more focused on the new Quartzsite friends were greeted. Never thought about the fuel.

I don't know about the rest of you all - but my "investment" for the 2001 Dynasty has returned dividends that are simply impossible to measure. Like;
The ability to take daughter and granddaughter out to a family photography business in Richmond, VA "Just" for the purpose of having her senior photos taken ------- Priceless

Then there is the family reunions, both sides of our families, when we were able to take daughter and granddauthers there one being WV, another Oklahoma, and I am talking about multiple trips ------- Priceless

Winter time trips to avoid the severe cold weather up here - to the gulf coast several times, to Arizona, New Mexico, and all the sights to see there that would have not been possible otherwise ----- Priceless.

Granddaughters very first trip, as an 18 year old "adult" to Mystic Lakes, in Minnesota ------ Priceless

I am positive that should I throw this conversation out there, like I am doing here, the voices of experiences would drown out the most "conservative" of the rest. Not to say they are not worth listening to - however at my age I feel that it is MY money, I have worked hard my entire life to attain this ability, and whose right is it to question my motives.

As has been said - had I wished to hoard my money, and leave it all to my children and grand children (to fuss and fight over), just think of all the hate and discontent THAT would have caused.

My thoughts!!!!

God Bless

Bill

Like I said earlier some people like chocolate ice cream and others prefer vanilla ice cream. Others prefer 45' $million dollar motorhomes others a van. If you prefer to have extra batteries, one or two sine wave inverters, 200amp Leese Neville alternators fine. I like propane as one of my choices for operating my frig. In NO way did I say how anyone should spend their money. deSanford
