The 08 Dynasty we bought has the residential fridge option. I have always been skeptical of these as dry camping can be a problem. My question is for those that have this option: If you cannot run your genset will the batteries last say 24 hours with judicious use of power hungry items? Thank You

Look into a lot of solar panels for the fridge.

If you have good batteries then you shouldn't have any problems. You can always hedge your bet by using your gen auto-start, that way if your batteries get low then the genset will recharge them for you. You should have 8 house batteries (unless you have the AGM option-then I believe it's 4). Just make sure that your batteries are clean, have the proper water levels and are fully charged when you take delivery.

I've never been in a motor home with a residential fridge in it. I have a question I'm curious about... Are they as deep inside as a regular residential refridgerator? If so, how do they do that? Do they just stick out into the living space further?

Well, this is an interesting topic. We have never been able to run 24 hours dry-camping without running the gennie, in fact even with running the gennie most of the day, the residential fridge goes off overnight. We had another generator failure 2 weeks ago... turned out to be loose ground wire and some other loose wires, which may have been caused by the front passenger side blowout that we had recently. Anyhoooooo... they (cummins) found that we had a battery issue (as posted in another thread)... we have now replaced all house batteries (went ahead and stayed with the AGM batteries that had been in the coach... $$$). The battery folks told us that the inverter should run everything in the coach without the generator running for 24 hours. So, we're on a trip right now, and experimenting a bit, but let me tell you, run the microwave without the gennie, and it shuts down after 1 minute. However, the fridge stayed on all night last night without gennie, electrical outlets are staying on without gennie(that wasn't the case before), haven't tried anything else yet.
So, fridge, low batteries, no, must have gennie or engine power. Good batteries, fridge good (so far). We'll be trying more this weekend, and will report back.

My question was not meant to bring up units that have other problems. If your micro will only run for 1 minute then you have a real electrical problem. Even our lowly Bounder with 4- 6 volts would run the micro for much longer. Sounds like a connnection problem to me.I bet 75 % of all electrical problems are a bad connection and especially a bad ground.

Well, here is the update. Refridgerator is staying on no problem without the gennie. We can now even power the TV and entertainment system without gennie running. I think our batteries must have been faulty for a long time. Didn't mean to bring up the other issues, but my answer to the fridge running without gennie would have been different one month ago... and thought our experience with the batteries might be useful to someone else. Microwave still doesn't want to run without gennie... but that's not really a problem for us.
Robin, ours is a Whirlpool fridge. I've just looked at it and I cannot tell if it as deep as the ones in the house... I'll have to measure.

Moisheh,
I just looked up the 2008 Dynasty and the Residential Refer option. Their specs say: "Residential Refrigerator with Water/Ice Dispenser in Door (Includes 2,800 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter and 4 Additional Batteries) (Requires Aqua-HotŪ Heating System)"
With 8 batteries, you should have absolutely no problem running the fridge for 24 hours.
Brenda, your specs on the 06 show the same inverter, but only 4 batteries, which if I remember correctly, was what you had stated in the battery thread. You would have to run the gennie more often in yours, but with less batteries, the amount of time it takes to re-charge them would probably be less. You should be able to run the microwave for longer than one minute, but we have not actually run that test on ours. I do know that the micro takes the 4 batts down pretty rapidly, but we always start the gennie if dry camping and using the micro.

Thanks, Sacs... you are good with your research! Yes, we have the 4 batteries (not 8). We did check the settings for the AGM batteries... Tony read up on that when we were considering the acid batteries. Since AGM settings were already in place and we kept the same kind, we're good. Thanks for the reminder, though. Again, that could be usefull to anyone else considering changing battery types.

I don't think you're suppose to run the micro- wave with out the gennie. In both the Dynasty and our Sig we were told to always be hooked to shore power or have the gennie running when using the micro-wave.
