Roadmaster Chassis NO MORE

Got it on good authority that a "Modified" Freightliner Chassis will be used by the new owner of Monaco for their foundation. deSanford

I just ordered a Bendix brake part for my 8rr Roadmaster chassis from Monaco in Coburg. Unfortunately Bendix will not sell to them. I had to order the part from a different source. deSanford

That deSanford is the beauty of most coach platforms....they are made from existing parts of well know manufacturers. You can get most any chassis part from the trucking industry or in your case Bendix who made the brake parts. I spent some time with Barry Hamton at Josams in Orlando and watched him get anything he needed for a coach chassis in just a few minutes. If he had called Monaco for instance, he would have had to wait a week or so and would have paid 5X's the cost that he paid from the manufactures distributor or "parts house". In our case, the Roadmaster chassis is one of the best mass produced chassis on the road today and most will still be around for many years to come due to their design. Be thankful you have one.

We are thankful we have a Roadmaster Chassis. We feel the "improvements" we have made to it make it a GREAT chassis. If I wanted a longer coach (which I don't) I would go with the Freightliner with the steerable tag. deSanford

Don't know if you would really want a steerable tag. I am not familiar with them on an FL chassis but others have tried that system and they have proven to be a big problem when it comes to handling. Many Bluebird owners ended up modifying the tag so it does not steer! When it comes to brakes NAPA or any good parts store can provide Bendix, Midland and any other brake system parts.

Good to know Moisheh, and have a healthy new year to you and yours. The part I will be getting is an updated modulator ABS valve. The Bendix distributor in Oregon (save the sales tax) quoted me $302.00 for it. He has to check the compatibility for replacement of the "old" part. I will call my local NAPA store and get their price. Thanks deSanford

itdave to answer your question on where I heard about the "modified" Freightliner chassis it was in a discussion I had while attempting to order my ABS Modulator Valve. The new "iTAG" is now installed on Freightliner's SL Series chassis, which also features improved handling and a virtual technician for its DD13 engine. This new ZF tag is much better then the active system found on some Newell Coach models. This new tag only turns when the coach is in motion. Check it out for yourselves. deSanford

Why did you have to make "improvements"?.... (the Roadmaster Chassis can't be very good if it needed to be improved).

I would suggest that the Roadmaster chassis is a aged design.

If you look back at Monaco's video "Testing our metal" or whatever its called.....its such a joke of a production. Seems really cheesy to me for such a nice platform put under some of the nicest coaches ever made.

Now before everyone panics and gets defensive here i'll say this;

I know that my rr10s chassis on our 2008 HR Scepter tag has gotten "better" with oversized tires and 10 new shocks but it does need to be updated for future production.

The Roadmaster chassis is unique and I personally think its great however go drive a EC Anthem on a Spartan or a Newmar MA on the Frieghtliner - they are pretty nice rides - no questions asked. ATC, ABS and coach taylored chassis design may have been all the rage 20 years ago but the playing field is different now.

Regardless of what choice ASV makes with the chassis, a updated Roadmaster version would be a real knockout but more importantly a necessity to ensure its survival.
