Hi everyone!!

We are taking delivery of an '04 Dynasty later this month and am considering whether or not to have the Monaco dealer install a Sani Con unit for us.
From what I have read there are a # of manufacturers for this pump concept including Monaco I believe.
Is the Monaco unit one of the better ones available??
I have heard about grey water bypass's which is one of my concerns as we do have a washer and that coupled with grey water volumes I would think it would make sense to be able to drain grey water without having to run the pump. Any thoughts?? Is clogging common and difficult to clear??

What is a standard length of used for site camping that most people use? 20'? I assuming it is easy to add more hose length for those times you may have a longer than normal run to the drain or is it?

Any advice would be appreciated. Oh yeah, we are quite excited to move into a DP from a gas coach and have found the dream rig for us. Counting the days until we are rolling.

I have the sanicon in my 07 scepter and I love it. It takes a littel longer to empty the tanks but it takes no time to take out the hose and put it back. Never had an issue with the by-pass and I use it all the time. The hose is about 20 feet and you can buy an extra hose for $25.00. I wouldn't buy another coach without it. I hope this helps...Bruce

Hi Globe trotter

There is only one maker of Sani-Con, though they have it in several configurations. There may be other makers of macerator type units, but I am not familiar with them.

I recommend sani-con. Be sure the dealer installs the unit lower than the dump valves. Many were not coming from the factory and had to be relocated to run well.

Here is an example of a good installation done by an owner. This is on the MONOCOERS board which you should join if you haven't already for Monaco info.

Note that he has removed all the fancy covers that just get in the way when something needs to be used or worked on. Many of us have also removed these dang covers that block access in the name of hiding or pretty.

I added a Sani-Con to my Diplomat and like it very much. I bought the extra section of hose because I need it at my "at home" dump station. The two pieces just slip together. I had a minor problem with the grey water bypass, but, that was corrected by backing up the fitting in the line by one turn. Bottom line...I love this thing!

I have it on my 06 but never used it yet since I use rv dump stations rather than dump at home. Maybe some day I will use but for the past year I have not.

Ed,

I use my Sani-Con all the time, anywhere I dump. I find it easier, faster, and more sanitary than the conventional wide hose. I do carry a conventional dump hose in case the emulsifier pump ever bites the dust, but I have yet to use it. It's still brand new in the box.

Get the sani-con system, and then use it!

At my dealer, I was looking at dump hoses...
When, someone asked me: "You have a Sani-con, why do you need a dump hose?"
So, the fear of the unknown [the SC System] was over and now, It is so easy...

Get the sani-con, it is worth it, I leave mine hooked up to dump valves, all the time.

I don't know what I like better, the sani-con or my new cord reel!

Steve

Probably just to be ornery , but I'm going to take the other side of the topic.

I have the Sani-Con as well and very seldom use it. After 30+ years of camping, I kinda look forward to the WHOOSH of discharge from that great big hose (yeah, I know I need to get a life, or at least a more-productive hobby), rather than the spit-sput-drizzle from the small one. Makes me feel better that the tank is being evacuated and scavenged better than simply dribbling out.

Additionally on my coach, the pump was mounted higher than the black-water outlet, so consequently there was always some discharge just sitting in the drain-hose with no way to get it out - save disconnecting the fitting and catching the glop that has been collecting.

And I might be a bit prejudiced from one time (at the stick-house) when I tried to pump it about 80 ft, only to find a clog ended up blowing off the fitting on the end. Naturally, it happened where I couldn't see it (til I could smell it), and I ended up merrily pumping 25-30 gallons all over the patio and walkway. Bet the dog was mad too (... "Hey! You scold ME for making a mess where YOU walk, and now YOU do this to ME??!! I suppose I'm gonna get blamed again??")

On the other hand, it does come in handy at times. We were camped at this superb resort around a central lake, but the sites and facilities were situated so rv's typically are going to back-in, missing the view. We got permission to face front-in to enjoy the view, and it was great... Til dump-time. Initially I was going to undock and trudge over to the dump-station, til I realized I could easily reach my site's sewer-line if I used the Sani-Con. So I dug it out, it did its job, and I celebrated for not having to disconnect/re-connect.

Ok, maybe it does have a place in our coaches. But I doubt I woulda got it if it wasn't already included.

YMMV

I think it's spec'ed at something like 200ft linear distance and/or 20ft high (which made my neighbor very worried when I brought home the new coach, seeing as our fences are only 7 ft high and about 30 ft apart ). The details are probably listed on their website.

Globetrotter....I love my SaniCon and recently saw they make a hose reel for it now. If you have space it would pobably be even more convenient.
