RVs with 500 hp and Signatures

Hi,

I am still out shopping right now and the thing I keep coming back to is that the Monaco Signature has a 500 HP cummins engine with a 37,300 empty wet weight. That sounds awesome to me.

Are there any other coaches at 40' that have 500 hp cummins? I can't find any. I tried doing searches that way but it doesn't work, it pulls up everything else too.

This motorhome sounds like it was overbuilt in its time.

Any thoughts

thanks moira

In Monaco line in the same era (mid 2000's) check out Executives, Navigators, Patriot Thunder, Marquis, Panther. If you haven't already test drive one with a tag axle.

Most were longer. Monaco built the Signature and Executive with the Cummins ISM. They also put the Detroit Series 60 and the Cummins ISX in those coaches. Country Coach built some high end 40' coaches with big Cat engines. Some Foretravels also. The high end of most builders were 42'-45' coaches with engines in the 450 hp range and higher.

The Cummins ISM is a heavy duty Diesel engine but by the time you load it up the GVW will be up over 40,000 pounds and pulling a 4-5,000 pound toad. It will not be a rocket ship but performance will be good. My coach is this model/floor plan with the ISM and it weighed in 2 weeks ago at a hair over 42,000.

Thank you everyone for the reply. I will check out those rigs. Price is an issue. So I can't do a 650 hp.

I can't seem to get anyone to let me test drive anything unless I am willing to buy today.

Steve Ownby, I have been getting the empty weights for rigs that I was interested in for exactly that reason. I can't imagine putting in more than 2000 pounds and towing my 3300 pound CRV.

So let me check all those new models and see if they are in my price range.

thanks guys

Are you saying that dealers are balking at a test drive? I understand a seller wanting to deal with a serious buyer but a test drive is necessary.

That's correct, but the rig I wanted to test drive was on consignment. They want a 1000 down, then an inspection for 700 bucks and then they will let me test drive.

OK, This is what I found out:

Beaver Patriot Thunder 40 and 42' rigs had Cats
Beaver Marquis could not determine the engine type but the ones I saw only had 2 slides and I wanted at least 3.

The Safari Panther had Cats
The Foretravel is out of my price range, even the old ones.

And the Holiday Rambler does have Cummins. So I guess it is between the Signature or the Holiday Rambler if I require the 500 hp Cummins.

If anyone knows if those models or the Marquis came with Cummins please let me know. This purchase is really more involved than I thought. These babes need a lot of maintenance.

Any thoughts?

thanks moira

Is this at MHSRV? If so, they usually they don't let you test drive.
God luck!

There's no way I'd put a deposit down for a test drive. Keep looking.

Don't forget executive if you are limiting yourself to Cummins. You might consider a nice tag axle Dynasty with a 400 or 450 ISL. A bit less pep than an ISM but less weight and fuel consumption as well. 42' with a tag is a nice size and great ride with about the same storage capacity as a non tag 40' and will fit about anywhere a 40' will.

Have you looked into Truck Conversions? If you want power that's the way to go.
