I recently inspecting the cooling unit on our Norcold 1200 and after reading about all the fires caused by these recalled units, it's time to make a move for the sake of safety. We boondock about 50% of the time. So a household frig was ruled out because of the power requirements, and we don't want to run the gen for hours every day. I did some reading on the changing the cooling unit to one made by the Amish. It's now on order. From what I've read, it sounds like the best solution for us. I'll let you all know how it went with the install.

I considered going that route but considering the performance of the Norcold I couldn't take a chance on this option. The Norcold performance at best was miserable, with frig & freezer temps really not that great.

I'd rather have to run the generator a couple hours a day to maintain the batteries rather then rely on the performance of an absorption type refrigerator.

I also have 335 watt of solar power to help. In hot weather we ran the generator anyway for AC and in cold weather to be able to run furnace, either way it just made sense to go with the Samsung.

Yep, and a small little quiet Honda generator could help if a person didn't want to run the coach gen.
