I have an Samsung in my stick house. I had the problem referred to in the Home Depot comments. Turned out a blockage in the defrost tubing in the back of the freezer. Water had frozen in the tube forced warm water down the tube to defrost the block.

Later production models of the samsung rf197 came with a retrofit on the clip that attaches to the defrost tubing and extends down into the drain tube so when the system goes into defrost it also warms the drain tube allowing water to pass. If you model is out of warranty there are a couple of posts describing a home retrofit solution that will save you a service call charge to repair. good luck we have one of the older models and had the extended warranty, unfortunately the repair man came out and basically thawed out the drain tube and verified that the tube was not blocked where the water eventually drips on the compressor motor causing the water to evaporate...he said he was not aware of the retro fit kit that was available nor did Samsung mention this to him when he checked with them as to what he needed to do...frustrating not to fix the darn thing when it was apart and it will probably keep repeating this problem until I am out of warranty or get someone more qualified that has experience with this model. The new ones should not have this problem, other than that we love our refrigerator and it took about a year and a few months before this problem showed up...Right after of course the one year manufactures warranty...funny how that works...

From research, I believe it can be run on msw. I may not take a chance and install a dedicated PSW.

And yes the answer is yes it will work on a modified sine wave inverter. Ran mine this way for eight months before changing over to a Magnum Pure Sine Wave Inverter to protect my electronic components in the video compartment. My TV would make a terrible buzzing noise and it would cause me to turn the breaker off to this area when not on shore power...No problem now.

Are you saying the Fisher & Pakel will work on the MSW or the Samsung (know from blogs this will). We are planning on attempting a change out to residential in our Dynasty 2003 (7.5 gen and 2000 MSW inverter, original equip, 4 coach 6v batteries, new 2011) in next month and have been reading the posts. Will be our first modification to our coach and we are a little anxious if we can do it and don't want to mess up. Two drawers under our Norcold, so will lose or have to cut them down to small drawers.

Deb and Mike,

Our friend Rick Pasetto installed the Samsung RF197 in his 2003 Dynasty and did a fabulous job. You can follow his work here:

I was only commenting on the Samsung RF197 being able to run on a MSW inverter, I have no actual knowledge of another brand. I changed out my MSW inverter to a PSW inverter to keep from damaging sensitive electronic components in my video and sound system and I am very happy with the Magnum inverter that I chose.

Since we already had a Magnum PSW, we shopped around and purchased a Whirlpool. Liked the idea that if it ever needed service all the working parts can be accessed from the outside by removing the old fridge panel.

I just checked the F & P electrical specs. It has the same built in inverter as the Samsung. The compressor electrical rating is listed the same as the Samsung, 230v 53-150 hz. Therfore, 120v in and inverted to 230v.
