Scan tool

I've done several searches and get nothing remotely relevant. Are some of you using a scan tool on a caps isl 8.9. There are so many available so I need some help with choosing one that will work. My jake cut out in really hot weather then came back when it cooled. No transmission codes.

Hi Shootist: I assume you tried Amazon! Just checked their web site and there are a couple for the big rigs that cover the larger Cummins and Cat engines. Also, transmissions etc. Also, they come with a couple of adaptors to fit your diagnostic port. Cover ABS codes and so on. Unless someone recommends one it would be hard to pick the best one. Hope this helps and have fun reading.

Harbor Freight had one for a reasonable price but not sure it will have info on Jake Brake.

Thank you for replying. I'm looking for the ecm inputs and output for the jake. They should show up on a scanner. Pretty sure I want a bi directional scanner. The allison shows codes rt a the dash, I didn't have any. So, cruise, brake, on off pedal, throttle, and Lord knows what other sensors affect the jake. They add more every year. Turns a great piece of equipment into a bucket of manure. In the 70's if you didn't turn the switch off it would run you down to 0 and kill the motor. Just a few switches inline.

You might have to get the Insite software and reader.

EBAY has them listed but these are probably knockoffs, no idea if they work.
