Screeen Door Latch

Our screen door latch slides in between the door frame and molding when the door is open but the screen is closed. As you can see by the pictures it causes damage to the molding.

Looking for pictures of other Diplomats and how the screen door latching is setup. Hard to believed that this was by design.

Thanks

Bill

Since using the screen door only causes this, consider holding the latch fully open until the latch has cleared the weatherstrip.

There is an adjustment on that. Loosen the screws and you can move it left or right for adjustment.

Thanks for the replies.

My screen door does not have an adjustment so unfortunately I can't use that solution.

I'm really looking for what does the latch hook into. Currently it's just be wedged between the screen door frame and the inside molding and it just continues to damage the molding.

If anyone has pictures of how their screen door latches, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks again

Bill

I doubt that the design has changed much over the years. On my 04 imperial, the screen door has two functions. It has to open with the main door when you want to leave or enter the coach, yet latch the screen door closed when you want to leave the main door open. When the main door is opened, there is a plastic piece that mates with the screen door and causes the screen door latch to retract so that it clears the latch plate on the door frame. The screen door then opens with the main door. When you only close the screen door that plastic piece withdraws from the screen door, allowing the screen door latch to extend and allow it to hold the screen to latch to the frame.
That plastic piece has a slotted screw hole that can be adjusted from side to side. It sounds to me that the plastic piece needs adjustment and the screen latch isn’t withdrawing enough to clear the door insulation when you try to enter or exit from the coach.

If that were mine I would consider looking for a whole different complete door possibly from an RV wrecking yard. Because what you have I don't believe that is the correct setup. I do know that between the models I think Monaco used the same door configuration. I know this because a friend of mine changed out his complete door assembly. And the door assembly that he purchased was not from the same model that he has. He purchased it from Visones in Kentucky. they are the biggest RV wrecking facility.

I'm pretty sure you will find a complete replacement door there.
Best of luck.
Frank.
