Seat foot rest

Power foot test doesn't work. It was intermittent. You can see the small motor try to torque the worm gear but no movement. Now the same happens on the forward and backwards of the seat too. Any ideas on what could cause this?

I see they have expanded their product line. They used to only make one. A can lasts forever
This is the one I use Triflow - Tri-Flow Pin Point Lubricator

TriFlow is great, we use it all the time for locks , actuator door hardware. Add to your tool kit.

It sounds like the worm gear is stripped out. I had that problem last summer and contacted Villa Furniture (the chair manufacturer) and ordered a replacement for less than $50. They sent me a picture of the two motors they use so I could make sure I ordered the correct one.

Its easy to pull out the old motor and worm gear and you will be able to tell if yours is worn out. They are really friendly and knowledgeable about this issue, give them a call 562-404-8111 if your seat is manufactured by Villa. Here is a picture of the two different motors. My chair used the one on the right side.

On mine, the button would cause the motor to spin and you could see that it was trying to turn the worm gear but the worm gear would turn for just a fraction of a revolution in either direction and stop. I thought it simply wasn't lined up inside the gear motor but once I took the assembly out you could see the gear had totally stripped out. Apparently it happens more often than on would think.

Any pressure while lifting and it doesn't like it...

Our worm gear actually bent, so it's quite cute when it goes up and down

will have to call them to get another ! thanks !

Seat foot rest

Had intermittenly operating seat switches, one for the foot rest and the other for the other movements. Started that the foot rest would allow the rest to come up a few inches and that was it. Leaving the switch alone for a while and then hitting it, the rest would move. Same thing with the other switch, work not work, just make a clunking sound. Did this for about eight weeks while we were on the road. Checked all connections and even rebuilt (didn't last) switches. Finally bought new switches and everything works like new. If you need the company name I'll send it, cost about $80.

Thanks for that info. Sounds like my problem. Could you get the gear in and out without removing the seat?

I don't think it's my switches. I have voltage from the 6 way seat switch. I can see the worm gear try to move. I don't know why the forward and backwards is intermittent since that appears to be a separate system from the worm gear/motor.

Jeff

I pulled up on the footrest while my wife pushed the up button and I was able to get the footrest to eventually come up most of the way. I then was able to reach in and take the nut off of the attachment the worm screw goes into.

Once I had the end of the worm screw loose, I could raise the foot rest even up a little further and reach back and take the bolt out that held the motor in place. It is really pretty easy if you are able to raise the foot rest up enough to reach in from the front. The electric just plugged in and out so pretty quick and easy switch out.

Hopefully it is your problem and it sounds like you are having the same issues I had so hopefully $50 and an hours time should have it back working with a little luck.

Seat foot rest

Got into this repair today. Managed to take the foot rest cushion loose (6 Phillips screws).
Three nylon lock washers from underneath the seat (with seat raised). Wiggle motor and worm screw out. Appears nylon worm screw gear in the small drive box on the worm screw is shot.

I believe it's shot because the footrest is hard to move due to corrosion on the two slides and pivot points.
I'd suggest if you have an electric foot rest you lube the slides to prevent the nylon gear failure.

I'll get some pictures up but...;
I had a new transmission and drive screw for the footrest made.

In the interim, I removed the footrest transmission and worm drive screw that attaches to footrest.
I drilled open the 4 rivets that hold together the transmission box and saw a bunch of dried up grease was causing it to stall. Cleaned it up and greased it and it's good as new. 4 long thin screws and nuts (4) (to replace the drilled out rivets) to put the transmission back together. Will reinstall and post some pics tomorrow.

I now have a spare footrest drive screw (flat on one end with bolt hole) and transmission for the footrest

Now to tackle the stalling forward and backward motion of the same chair. Dried grease is my number 1 suspect. How do you access that on the 6 way rack and pinion seat motor?
