Looking good. Keep the photos coming.

What's the most difficult part so far?

Are you doing the 1000 hour, or every five years, Service?

Changing the belt so far. In hindsight I should have pulled the whole unit out and did it then. My Maint schedule looks a little different from what you posted. I am doing all execpt the coolant system and injector pressure for now. will do that after a short trip in Nov.

Ken,

I can tell you from experience it is a really tricky job. I did it in a field at a dog show. Last year I had the stator rebuilt and while it was out I had one of the belt drives replaced with a direct drive. Parts were cheap compared to the effort to get the unit out.

At the time the mechanic was almost disbelieving when I told him I had changed the belt with the generator in the coach. He said they won't consider it, they always pull the generator.

What is the direct drive? Is that an upgrade/option to eliminate the fan belt?

Do you have a link or part number for this?

Thanks

One of the belts? Mine only has 1,would be interested in the direct drive but can not imagine how that would work to drive both the water pump and altinator. The blower wheel is already direct drive

OK finished the " 900 HR " service, all filters, oil , belt, adj valve backlash, did not really need it but had it opened up so adjusted a little just to say I did. Book calls for .0071 to .0087 so I hit the middle. Can not see the timing marks so I removed the glow plugs and used a tye rap as a depth gauge to find TDC and watched the valves move. Also releaves the compression so it is easier to turn over, blew the soot out of the muffler and buttoned it up. As can be seen from the pics it was really clean and valve train in great shape. Will do the coolant change, pressure cap, coolant hoses and check injector pressure at about 1500 hrs. Hope this helps if anyone else is about to do this

So, how far out were they?
I don't plan on touching mine unless I have problems.
I have less than 600 hrs on my 10K gen.

Less then a thousand. Basically within parameters but went thru the process just for the hell of it. Took 2 of us. 1 under the coach turning it over and 1 adjusting. Based on mine you are probability ok for a while. Worth looking at.pulling the valve cover is not much of a job

My bad.
I have under 300 hrs on it.

I bought this coach 6 years ago, and it had 50 hrs on the generator!

Keep the oil changes up and you should be in good shape. I live in Tx and find I use it while driving to keep the AC’s going. Last trip out went to SD in July and except for 4 days had to run it as we were not in a park most of the trip

Do I understand this correctly? You did this work without pulling the generator out of the coach? I thought that on no-slide gensets, you can't get the top and sides off without pulling the generator out. Am I wrong? What was the condition of the belt?

It is on a slide. Still very tricky to thread the belt. I had to do a good part of it up through the air inlet, had to separate the squirrel cage from the drive.

Yes. Mine is on a slide. With it extended and the coach raised to max it can be done.I am on a pad so for safety I put the jacks down and wooden blocks under them so if anything bled off I could sit up under it and be ok. You can pull the top and back panel off as well as loosen the lower back plate where the battery and fuel hoses go in. Do not remove the cables and hoses as you only need to pull the plate back about a 1/4 inch to pull the wheel. After that 4 bolts remove the blower wheel from the crank shaft and the belt will come out. still a bit of a pain as the alternator is hard to get loose due to where the bolts are but can be done. If you have a way to pull the gen set out it would be easier in the long run but if not it is doable. If you have any question give me a shout.
The belt was in good condition. there were pieces of old belt in the bottom so it was not origional. The stator was changed, end bell and direct drive fan kit installed at 388 hrs. I believe the stator burned up due to belt being broken that was in 2011 and the total bill was $2700
