I spoke with a woman with customer service at Sani-con yesterday and she said claimed that they have never heard of any problems with their hose retaining odors and that she handles all of the email traffic and that she has yet to receive a complaint on the subject. As Sani-Con was recently acquired by Thetford ( 2006?) they may not be aware of the need for this re-engineering and we in this forum owe them some feed back on the subject.

Hi relgel

I send Thetford an e-mail explaining the problem and included a link to this thread. The never replied.

My guess is that they don't want to enter into any discussion on the subject.

The Great Dane-- totally agree with you. I also sent an email to: info@thetford.com and asked her if she had received my email and she said no. As I am on the road, I let it pass and gave her my complaint ( and ordered a new hose as the two days of bleach treatment didn't totally remove the smells). If you have the time, give here a call @ 1800-543-1219!

After this thread started we noticed an odor (not a pleasant odor either ) coming from the washer/dryer cabinet. At first it was difficult to pinpoint, but once I opened the cabinet I knew I had found it. We had been on limited hook ups so thought a P-trap might have gone dry. Or maybe the black tank had not been emptied as soon as usual. So we had Guaranty RV track it down. It turns out that the P-trap for the W/D was empty AND the W/D connection were not capped off.

We have not yet started using our sani-con system, but I can hardly wait!

Cleaning the Holding Tank, Sensors, and Hose to the Sani-Con:

When all else fails, you can also clean your holding tank by filling it 2/3 full of water using the spray nozzles or just a hose, and then add about 1/3 gallon of Pine-Sol, drive around for a short while then dump the tank. This cleans the tank, the sensors, and the hose to the Sani-Con. WARNING: Do NOT get side-tracked doing something else while you're filling the tank.

Tried it twice now and it really helps with the smell.

Okay...I am now a little more curious about the bleach trick. My question is - what amount of bleach to water...ie: 50/50...25/75?

After I dump and flush tanks I just pour a little bleach into the toilet. I add some water and and open the drain valve on the black tank to let the Bleach\water mix enter the Sani-Con hose. I then close the black tank then add my normal tank fresher into toilet with more water and I'm done.

And I say NO to both. Bleach cannot be good for the rubber seals on the Dump Valves or to the impeller in the Sani-Con..

Sacs.. maybe some people cannot stand the smell - so we should see how other people answer for the others...
