Sharp R-1870F Microwave replacement

Our Sharp Microwave/Convection Oven has stopped heating in both the microwave and convention oven modes. Our coach is a 2007 Monaco Camelot and the current microwave is a Sharp model R-1870F. My understanding is it is often the Diode on the capacitor inside the unit, so we pulled the microwave out and sure enough the diode is bad and is probably the fix.

My question is since I have the 12 year old microwave already out, maybe I should just replace it with a newer unit. Has anyone found a compatible microwave/convection oven that will slip right into the same space and maybe even with the same wall mounting back plate.

We are out in Quartzsite currently and not a lot of shopping sites available, but I can drive to Yuma or Phoenix if I can find an easy swap with a new unit. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

I had to replace the capacitor and the fuse behind the button panel, last year.

When I thought I was going to have to replace it, a little research showed that model rates quite high for wall mounted microwave / convection's, so I decided if it was something a non electrical mind like me could repair, I would.

Microwave replacement

We had our R1870 fail last year. We replaced it with the Sharp T1874T YA, which is a direct replacement. It is stainless/black, instead of all black. We were in Yuma and had the replacement done through our service contract. The best price I found at that time was through Office Depot, although Lowe's and Amazon also had them listed. Good luck...

A couple of you have said the R1864T was a direct replacement and the measurements seem to be the same so we ordered one this afternoon through Lowes. I am hoping it uses the same mounting bracket and all we have to do is lift it up and bolt it in place.

Thanks for the responses and we will let you know how it works out.

The Sharp R-1874 is a direct replacement for the R-1870 Microwave/Convection Oven. I had it installed and operational in less than 30 minutes from the time I carried it into the RV.

Thanks to everyone that made suggestions on finding the direct replacement as it bolted right into the old mounting plate. Now all I have to do is carry the old one to the dumpster....

JRPA: I just replaced ours and while it should be a simple swap out, ours was a bear to remove because the factory folks decided to put two extra screws, one in each side accessible through the grease filter screens, in the unit for extra strength. These screws were not part of the installation instructions! So.....watch out for extra screws! Otherwise, a very simple removal/reinstall.
