Shower base grill rusting

My 07 Diplomat has the curved shower. There is a metal louvered grill in the base that keeps rusting. The edges are so shap they will not hold paint. I sanded and painted the original at least 3 times. I finally bought a new one from Monaco for some crazy price like $59. It lasted about a year before it rusted. I had it powder coated which lasted about 1 1/2 years but is rusting again.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? I am thinking of just getting some plastic and cutting to fit but would like to have the louvers for air circulation.

Sounds like your getting excessive moisture from somewhere. Mine has been in service for 5 years and no signs of rust. I would check for the cause. The rust may be an effect. You may have a leak in the shower drain under the shower causing the excess moisture.

Maybe a small heater in the shower area would help dry the air and make getting out of the shower a little more enjoyable. If it isn't too cold outside opening up ceiling vent or turning on the Fantastic power vent might help. Thanks for the heads up on this. I might take mine off and give it a coat of Rustoleum paint. deSanford

Use a product called T9 rust preventive after you remove all the paint. You can soak the grill in full strength Awesome (get it at Dollar General) and it will remove most of the paint. Soak again and get the rest. Use a stiff brush to clean the paint off after soaking.

Now spray it with T9 rust preventive. Now paint and it should not rust again. Be sure and spray both sides. T9 is sold at Camping World but don't know if they have the rust preventive as there are two products called T9. If you don't find it there, look for it at Rockler or WoodCraft stores.
