Will be checking with Monaco Support tomorrow, But looking for any experience from Monaco users.
My 38PDQ is a 4 slide unit. The 2 front opposing slides are fairly large. The curb side operates much better than the roadside slide (it is smaller). The roadside slide motor, when bringing in the slide groans very loud and has a time getting the slide to move and keep moveing. I am fearful that the strain will do in the motor at the worst possible time. My qustion is: Has anyone had a motor burn out? And - is there a more powerful repalcement motor?

Had the same, (if not worse) problem on our 40PDQ. If we were on any slant at all toward the roadside, I had to get out and push the slide while my wife pushed the button. I told Monaco this was not very good advertizing for their coaches... What we found out was that it was a known problem with a TSB and there was a replacement motor for that slide. They put it in and it is noticeably more powerful and we have not had a problem since.

I'm not sure how Monaco would have handled the replacement had we not been on warranty. I think our extended warranty may have covered it but the job was over $1000 with parts and labor.

The only problem we have had was the road side slide gear connected to the motor side broke 3 teeth off of it. Was a pain while out camping to get the slide back in but they fixed it under the 1 year warranty and we have not had a problem since.

Our bedslide developed the broken teeth malady too. It was out of warranty with Monaco but they put us on to powergear who did the job at a shop in Chino, Ca 100% covered! The mfgrs have warranties on their products that many times are longer than the Monaco 1yr deal. We had the slide gearmotor assy, the outside mirrors and the entry door keypad replaced this way.

Our bed slideout failed recently, but it was a driftpin type problem, no broken teeth. The motor for the bed slideout is nearly inaccessible.

Our bedslide would make a thumping noise when it reached it's fully extended position. After a period of time, it also would stop before becoming fully extended and the switch would have to be pressed several more times for it to extend fully. The dealer has now replaced the motor and gear box under warranty.

We have experienced two major failures of our living room roadside slide out system. The motor seems to perform well, but both shear pins have failed twice, and both gears were also stripped on the first occassion. Weight and adjustment problems have been culprits for sure.

There also appears to be NO cut-out switch to prevent the slde from travelling too far, either in or out. Does anyone know how the slide travel is supposed to be limited to avoid damage to the motor, shaft and gear components?

Been there done that... We were in the Coburg Factory facility obtaining some needed coach attention and as we were pushed out with all four slides in their rain booth doing a water test, the roadside living room slide that has the refer in it would not come in at all when the supervisor pushed the retract button. The motor gave it up. He had 5 guys report to the rain booth and they pushed it in.

We were told there was a horse and half motor for that slide when they built the coach. They replaced it with a 3 horse to eliminate the strain on the motor. To date, it operates very smooth and no pauses or groaning like we experienced before.

We were under warranty at the time so it was no cost to us.

I have 2008 endeavor PDQ we been having problam with road side front slide with fridge in it.We strip 2 gears and at less 8 shear pins.Itwas getting cut on the top of openning so they added a metal plate on top behind wood trim it is better. But still strip 2 pins in 7 open and close.

Have a 2007 Scepter quad slide. Roadside slide quit three hours after leaving dealer. Monaco replaced motor, next trip out axle for rear gear sheared off. Monaco Oregon replaced gear and replaced connecting bolt. Bolt sheared next trip. Dealer replaced bolt, sheared three bolts to date. Now drive shaft hole is beginning to elongate from strain of shearing bolts. Back to dealer again next week with broken bolt. Haven't gotten any definitive answer of causes, but if the driveshaft shears it will be real trouble. The slide does seem to really strain to bring slide in and out and also no definitive stops.

I found an interesting retrofit for the PowerGear slide assembly developed by some Fleetwood owners. Apparently, some Fleetwood coaches suffer from the same problems often experienced by Monaco owners. Several owners got together to develop a fix the neither Fleetwood or PowerGear could not or would not do. While a more powerful motor helped with the groaning and motor stalling but the increased power broke teeth on the rack and/or shear pins on the pinion shaft. They discovered that the main culprit was the cheap plastic rollers PowerGear used which created a great deal of friction. Their solution was to replace the plastic rollers with ball bearing rollers. For those mechanically inclined the procedure looks pretty simple. For those less inclined to attempt the modification the document has enough detail for a tech to easily follow. The result vastly improved slide operation and virtually eliminated broken teeth and sheared bolts.
