Screws are used only on the exposed portion of the plates. With the thicker plates, the slides have to be raised to slide them in. Mr. William Willard (AKA BP or Billy Paul) uses a bottle jack, a 2x4 or 2x6 on the bottom of the slide, with a cut to length 2x4 standing on the bottle jack, pushing against the 2x6 to raise the slide enough to slide in the plate.

The screw holes need to be countersunk so the heads of the screws do not touch the rollers.
Thanks happycarz. I figured you had to jack it up just wasn't sure where and how. Going to try and locate some stainless steel "runners" today. Thanks again

The pictures will show how I lift the slide to remove the gear pack & the other to lift the slide to install the plates -- I broke a slide gear shaft while in the the middle on Utah -- Finding a way to lift the slide so I could repair the gear was not an easy task - I finally figured a way to use the car jack on top of the fuel tank to lift it -- When I got home I made this rig -- Used a piece of chainlink fence post -- I`ve had to remove a gearpack twice, so the effort has paid off -- The last picture shows the screw countersunk on the slide plate - Bill Willard

Thanks William for the pics. Those help give me an idea. I picked up my pieces of stainless steel today. I got some 12 ga 6" wide by 32" long. I've got to pick up the screws and a countersink bit. I'm gonna try to get her done on Saturday.

Did you leave the slide just a short ways (like 1") from full extension? Seems like it would have a little more wiggle room to lift up. Thanks again to all.

onechaddude -- I don`t know what slide you`re going to install the plates on, but if it`s the big livingroom slide, it`s a bit more complicated than the bedroom slides -- I`m sending pictures of how the big slide plates are formed like a ski to match the bottom of the floor -- The other pictures are of the bedroom slide plates & the pop rivets that I used to install them -- The rivets do go into wood, but the mastic is what holds them in place -- Bill Willard

Bill. I am installing the "skis" on the small bedroom slide. I guess I should have mentioned that earlier. My big slide is different and doesn't have rollers. I believe it slides on the white plastic stuff all the way across. I am confident things will go smoothly thanks to everyone's help. I have the adhesive just have to run by fastenal for screws and countersink bit. Thanks again
