Slide out steps intermitent

The slide out steps on our 2001 Monaco Knight have become intermittent. We went away for the weekend and they stayed retracted the entire trip. The courtesy light turns on and off as it should. We stopped part way home, opened the door, and the stairs extended. Closed the door, they retracted and have not moved since , that would be 20 or so opening and closings. Ant ideas TIA

Just had this problem on our Discovery on our just completed cross country journey. Had two different techs look at the problem and did a bunch of research but I finally found the issue. First problem I found was the frame ground was corroded and as soon as I turned the nut the steps extended. After cleaning everything I figured it solved. Nope, problem came back. Now getting in and out is a real stretch so this needs to be solved.
Found a tech in NY and after checking he says itís the controller, new controller and they worked for two days.
In Utah a fellow Discovery owner says your step light switch does not have a light when on. I removed the switch panel and swapped the wires with an identical switch and the light worked but no steps. I decided to trace the location of the step power source and it comes from the dc control box located by in the compartment with the Magnum inverter. Difficult to see and work on because itís in the back corner. After removing the cover I found the connector that provides power to the steps and mirrors was cocked and the bottom latch had come loose. After I re-locked it the steps started working and so far have continued to work.
I think the beating our coach took on I40 through Arizona shook this connector loose. Never driving on that road again until itís repaired.

Lots of threads on the Kwikee/Lippert steps. You might do a search.

Iíve replaced just about everything on my steps, other than the steps themselves.

You might make sure your batteries are fully charged. The steps require lots of power to move in and out. It could also be the little magnets on the door jam. Also you might check the that all wires to the module and motor arenít damaged or not fully connected. Check the ground wire too. Make sure it has a good connection. Check voltage to the module and motor, while under there.

Be very careful getting under the coach and around the step. A moving step or coach is very unforgiving.

Follow the troubleshooting steps in the link I provided. They will lead you to the correct conclusion.

Just before out last trip, ours did exactly that. I had a spare motor so I swapped it out. Didn’t fix it. Replaced the controller, and all is good. Verify your model number.
