Slide Sliding Out while Driving (Slide Creep)

We’ve had trouble with our electric kitchen slide ever since we moved into our 2002 Monaco Diplomat two years ago. Basically it moves on its own - which isn’t great when you’re driving down the road and you look in the mirror and see a black wall sticking 2 feet out of the side of your motorhome.

We do have a locking bar for the top of the slide, but even with that installed the bottom would still slide out ± 4 inches on a long trip.

So I figured it must be the slide motor itself, even though the slide comes in and goes out using the motor just fine. In any case I figured it’s good to have a back up motor anyway in case one of them ever failed...

Hours of googling later I found the current model number for the replacement for the discontinued replacement that replaced the motors we have, which of course are not made any more. The difference is: these new motors have a brake! Our’s don’t. So that must be the problem! Or so I thought…

Most companies I found wanted $900, $1100 or even more for this new motor, but I managed to find one for $350 at Leisure Coachworks. That sounded reasonable so I ordered one. But the parts guy at this company (Conrad Torres) is really good and wanted to be sure this motor would fit our motorhome. So I gave him the make and model of our current motors and he looked in his database and said that it should work.

He also said our motors should have a brake as well and that it could be covered by a plastic “boot.” “No, I don’t think so,” I told him, but just to be sure I thought I’d go and check again. I ran my hand around the bottom of the motor and wouldn’t you know it, I found a damn lever. &%$*#@!

The lever was in the middle of it’s two positions, so I tried both end points and sure enough, in one direction the slide does not move at all once the motor stops running. (The lever is there in order to allow us to remove the motor brake in case we have to move the slide by hand…)

Another problem solved, and another lesson learned…

For those who care, we have the following motors:

Part #: 13-1133
(Klauber?) #: K01265-B300
S/N : 2C0111
Power Gear
P/N: 522176
S/N : 0203622168

I read someplace that these were supplied by Lippert, but were OEM to Monaco only, with a part #: JDE273617
I also found online a Lippert part #: 383745
I also read that they pull 8 amps, but that could also be wrong.

I just ordered a Power Gear 523900, K01469B300.
Traveling in Europe in a 2002 Monaco Diplomat 38PST since Summer 2016.
