Slide Topper installation problem

2002 40' Diplomat with 2 slides. Carefree of Colorado Omega 1 toppers.
I purchased 2 new slide toppers from Stone Vos. I replaced the front one no problem. I locked the spring on the right end, removed and re-installed the topper from the left end, and everything went smooth. The rear topper needs to be removed and re-installed from the right end. When I locked the spring on the left end, it actually didn't lock the spring and there was still tension when I went to remove the right end cap. I called Stone Vos and they think the Omega 1 needs to be locked from the right end. The problem is, the topper can't be removed to the left because the front topper is in the way. I can't believe they would design it so the front topper would have to be removed to change the rear one??!!
Anyone with experience would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you

Brian

There is no need to remove the roller when replacing the toppers -- With the slide fully extended, finish unrolling the fabric with your hands till the seam is on top -- Then lock the roller with a filter wrench that you can get at Harbor Freight -- With a drill, enlarge the slot for about an inch -- Then you can slide the fabric off the roller -- William Willard

Thank you for the response. I wasn't removing the roller, just the end cap to expose the slot. I would prefer to not grind the aluminum slot if I don't have to. I'll have to look to be sure, but I don't think I have ore than 1/2" of exposed slot to work with.

Brian,
When we replace our slide toppers we faced the same situation you are facing and moved one topper over the back slide in the process. But, in trying to find the document I used for our replacement I found that may help you with your situation.

Note: if you do not have flash player installed (which I do not) just click on the "this video" heading over the video screen and you will be redirected to the you tube site.

Hope this helps,
Bob
