Slide topper spring replacement
Hi Folks,
I’ve got a broken spring on my slide out topper on a Monaco LaPalma 36’
Double bath.
My measurements:
39” spring
12’ - 7.5” awning
From label on Awning tube:
Carefree of Colorad
SN 2027417489
DT: 3125
PN: UJ145EAJZ42P
Per SN from carefree website:
Slideout Kover II Awning
SERIAL NUMBER : 2027417489
PART NUMBER : UJ145EAJZ42P
MANUFACTURE DATE : 05/01/03
DESCRIPTION : SOKII-A-C,145",4654 42"PNTPEW
I would like to just buy the spring or if I have to the spring assembly. I am in VA now but will be back home in NY in a week or so.
When I look at parts from carefree I only see the III series not II
Any info would be appreciated especially a recommended source.
Thanks

I was able to find an open box special on Ebay and found a good deal.
The instructions for changing are somewhat vague so I found a way that made it pretty easy. After I removed the old spring installed the new one, at which point I was suppose to rotate the spring and then insert keeper screws, which while under torsion would have been a chore. Instead, I put the new spring in, installed the keeper screws, and then took the awning arm off the side of the motor home and then used it as a lever to rotate the spring (17 times from memory) and then just reattached the arm. I did have the advantage of being able to work out the bucket of my tractor. It would have been harder on a ladder.

I just replaced the same spring on our large living room slide. It's also the SOK II. I ordered the spring from Amazon however after two weeks I got nothing. I canceled the order and went with an online RV parts company and got much better service. About 3 days ago the canceled spring showed up. It should be noted the first company that I ordered the spring from never shipped it. That's why I canceled so they must have shipped it after I canceled. I also found that the directions for installation were not exact and I had to install it a different way.

Still wrong
Hi Folks,
Even though I thought I had ordered correctly my spring is wound backwards compared to the original.
It did not work. I did not notice the difference until it would not wind up all the way and the anchoring end came off because the spring unwinds as opposed to getting tighter.
I am in contact with the eBay seller but thought I would ask people here who may know.
I ordered:
Carefree RV R00731 SOK II Awning Spring Assembly
The part that came was labeled as such but LH.
I don’t see any RH springs with this part number. on the web.
If I stand on my slide out facing the awning tube the spring is on the RH side.
Attached is a pic of both springs.
Any help appreciated,
Bruce

This was a complicated issue and I appreciate the help that members here have given me.
The issue is finally resolved. The eBay supplier sent me a returned goods label that I could return the spring with no penalty.
In order to assure the next spring I ordered was correct I called Carefree of Colorado to check it out. After checking with their technical people they said the spring was manufactured incorrectly and that they would send me a replacement. No need to return the faulty one. It is a win win for everyone.
It arrived today and it is correct. Thank you Carefree of Colorado.
A great company to work with.
