Slideout problem on our 03 Dynasty
Hello:
Our recently purchased coach has a problem with the main slide. We noticed on returning from a short trip that the slide was protruding from one side about 2 inches. We attempted to reseat it by drawing it in and then sent it out only to find that it bound up on that side and sprung a leak of hydraulic fluid. Your comments on what the problem might be and what will need to be done to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

This is beyond my knowledge and experience, however some of the members here are very knowledgeable. They may be able to advise your next steps.
Which end was protruding, front or rear? How did you attempt to draw it in? Where is the leak? Pictures may help.

Can't help on the leak other than find and fix it. To synchronize your slide, you hold the in switch on for 5-10 seconds after it closes and then do the same when fully extended. I know this sounds wrong to keep holding the switch down but there is a 3rd synchronizing cylinder in the system and this centers it.

The rear end was protruding and was the end that was movable. The front appeared to be locked up and the hydraulic leak was at the rear of the slide. It was not a slow leak but was probably the result of a broken line (?) so no photos are available. I have taken the coach to a service tech but am not sure what to expect of their analysis, other than the worst.

Just fixed mine this spring. The seals on slide cylinders are leaking and need to be replaced. HWH will replace the cylinders ($375.00 + shipping each),but in my case it would take up to 3 weeks to make. It's complicated but doable. I took mine to the local hydrologic shop where they replaced the seals. I'll post tomorrow pics and how too.

You took the rig or the cylinders? My rear one is leaking. Are they hard to get out and back in? Alignment issues?

Yes and no. Ater I figured how to do it, not too hard. The rear slide cylinder is located on mine behind water heater. I got the diagram off the HWH web site and how to align the slide and bleed the lines.

I'm not understanding "located behind the water heater".
It looks like the picture is taken from just above the propane tank in the basement?
Thanks

Do you travel with that knowledge . Thanks for the pics. My rear one on the front slide (in front of the AquaHot bay) is leaking.

Thanks very much for your comments. Are your slides operable while they are leaking? Mine is locked up; its leak was more like a bleed. All of this occurred the same day that the AquaHot was tuned up by a certified rep.

In the 1st and 3rd pictures you can see the synchronizing cylinder and the reason it’s actually good to not stop pushing on the switch when the slide stops moving on occasion.

Hello:
The analysis from the technicians is that the front 2 ODS hydraulic rams need to be replaced and the slide topper springs. One of the hydraulic rams was binding and caused the other to blow out. Cost to fix both issues is $2700.

I wrote up my recent experiences with HWH slideouts, removing the cylinders and having them rebuilt locally.
Link: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f115/need...ut-431958.html
If yours is like mine, have fun getting the cylinders out the curb side... I had to cut clearance notches in the bottom of the curb-side slide-out.
I have no idea what might cause a cylinder to bind, but hopefully your shop knows what they are doing.
My local hydraulic shop had no trouble rebuilding the cylinders; the seals were all standard hydraulic parts. There's a locking mechanism on the outboard end of the cylinder that is definitely not standard hydraulic parts, but that didn't need to be touched in order to replace the seals. This lock holds the ram in until the hydraulic pressure forces it out. So you can manually push the room IN, but you can't push it OUT manually.
HWH doesn't make it easy to search their site, but they actually have some pretty good documentation, including procedures for bleeding and synchronizing the cylinders. And their tech support will talk to you on the phone.
Cheers,
Walter

Hi passerby,
When you say "diagram off the HWH website," do you mean a diagram of the hydraulic system or both slide out mechanisms and hydraulic system? If the latter, would you be able to share the link to the HWH website? I and at least one other person on this forum would be interested in obtaining it. We have a diagram of the hydraulic system but not how it is configured in the slide itself. Thanks.
