Running the generator works too. In fact my initial test of the "fix" was conducted using the generator.

Dennis,

I'm camping out now. Unfortunately, using your technique did not work for leveling. Neither being plugged in nor running the generator allowed me to level without the engine running. I still get the "low voltage" light until I completely start the engine.

Oh well... thanks for trying.

Just maybe you have the dreaded Trombetta contactor disease. If the contacts are corroded (see photograph) even though the contactor may close when the boost switch is operated, electrical contact will not be made.

Mine was corroded on a 5 month old unit. There is a replacement contactor with silver contacts that is much better at resisting conrrosion than the copper contacts in the original part # 114-1211-010.

The contactor is in the battery compartment. To check whether or not it's working, take a voltage reading from ground to each side of the main (heavy gauge conductors) contacts when the boost switch is being pressed or held in the ON position with a pencil. There should not be a significant voltage difference (< 0.1V) between both terminals if the unit is operating correctly.
