You need to clean the EVAPORATOR.

It is cleaned from on the roof.

Any box store should have evaporator cleaner.

This should be done annually if in a humid area. Whenever you get that "wet dog" smell when turning on the A/C in other areas.

When the A/C has been running for many hours and then you smell something, that makes me think the odor is coming from somewhere else, like an air admittance valve from one of your tanks. I would check and see if the odor is stronger under the kitchen or bathroom sinks and if so check\replace the air admittance valve. ~CA

If you have a washer or plumbing for one make the there is water in the pee trap for it. All pee traps need to be cleaned out and have water. I use a little bleach when I fill mine and let it set for a while. My washer pee trap gets pulled empty if I dumb a close to full grey tank.

Just a thought, might check a/c drain pan to confirm drain line is not clogged, after running for 8 to 10 hours may be filling with water.

The last time I tried to find these at HD, they were out of them so if they don't have them in stock, try to find something similar.

They should kill the musty odors caused by water turning sour in your evaporator drain pan.
