Snap Disc test

After replacing the rocker switch controlling the water bay heater, I wanted to test the function of the snap disc. Switch activated, temp drops below 36 or 37, snap disc closes activating heater and pilot light lights to tell you heater is on. So, I refused to hold an ice cube on the snap disc, so I inverted a can of Dust Off allowing the Freon to discharge onto the snap disc and within 3 sec the heater came on. Success!!! System is checked out. Problem is the old incandescent bulb that tells you the heater is on is so dim the new led next to it over lights it. So I’m changing the heater pilot light to a new green led. That should make it better to see.

So if the light next to the interior switch to turn on the basement heating system is lite can I assume that all is well?

there are 2 lights aren't there?

1 light says the system is 'armed'. The second light says the snap disc is closed and allowing power to the heater.

But you can't 'assume' all is well..... The heater is a common failure item, so you need to verify it is working.

Very true. That’s why I armed the heater, went down and sprayed an inverted dust off can of air on the snap disk.. the heater came in seconds and the light next to the rocker switch light up. If it doesn’t, either the snap dis is bad or the heater is bad. Pretty simple.
