Some questions on buying a used Signature

Looking longingly at a Signature. However, a few things seem odd to me so I thought I'd ask the experts. It's a 2005.

1. Detroit Diesel 60 is EXTREMELY loud. I can hear it at idle in the drivers seat with door and windows closed. It is unbearably loud at rear of coach even at idle. Maybe they have that cooling fan running at max all the time? Would that make it so loud?

2. several panels seem to be missing. Is it a big deal? I have pics if necessary.
a. down by the floor on the right-hand side of the bed. Wires and plumbing are exposed.
b. a really flimsy segmented "slide" just to the right of that 2.a. hole, under the shower does not close all the way.
c. standing in front of the kitchen sink, also down at floor level, look to the immediate right. another segmented "slide" has like coat hanger wire woven through it to open and close it.

I assume some repairs were required earlier in the coaches life but shoddy workmanship in replacing the area's covers. Could this be major? Or indicative of shoddy workmanship overall?

Thanks.

A roar from the cooling fan is usually the wax valve needing replacement and should be a different sound than the rattle of a big diesel. The DD should be no loader than any other.
I cannot visualize the panels you describe. The fit and finish of that vintage Sig was wonderful. I would not think it is an indicator of poor workmanship more likely poor or unfinished repairs. Like any complex system there are things that break.

The Detroit's EGR system at idle is really noisy standing on the curb side. It will sound like a jet engine. The cooling fan should not be loud right after startup. Could be that the wax valve is bad or they accidently swapped the hoses on the wax valve which will make it run at full speed. I cannot hear my DD in the driver's seat so something is wrong.
If you want you can email pictures of the interior problem areas at mike.c@mindspring.com

Hello,
To me that screams shoddy work through-out. I would keep looking. There are a lot of nicer ones out there. Our Detroit 60 is not very loud and it is even better at 1000rpm during warm-up.

The Detroit 60 in our SIG is not at all loud. when driving I don't hear it at all. Photos of the missing panels would help. Make sure you check the slide seals, especially under the slide toppers.

Sounds like the sedimented slide doors have been abused on your kitchen and bedroom slide plumbing access. They can be easily replaced. Woodworking suppliers carry them.

If you want to talk about things to look for , send me a PM with your phone # and I'll give you a call.

If it is parked next to another RV on a lot or close to a wall the sound from the engine will be more noticeable. I cant hear mine while driving. Those panels are accordion like folding panels that expand and collapse with the slides to cover all the plumbing and wiring access. Should be and easy fix.

This era Monaco wouldn't be shoddy workmanship in any way. But the quality of how well it was cared for could be..
