Spare parts recommended for a long journey

I’m interested in what spare parts might be carried to help in unplanned breakdowns. I have a good selection of tools I always carry. I know I can’t have everything, just wanna help with items that can strand us or greatly delay while awaiting parts

Here’s what I’ve accumulated so far:
12v and 120v fuses of all sizes
Slide relays
Various bulbs for the DP and toad (wrangler)
Extra fresh water hose
Extra black/grey sewer hose
Motor for slide outs (same one fits both slides)
Step motor
Carefree Canopy motor
Shurflo Water pump with extra fittings
Cummins lift pump with gasket
Leece Neville 160amp alternator

I’m thinking of taking an unmounted spare tire as well.

Opinions on additional parts?

Where do you all carry an unmounted or mounted spare tire? I don't think even an unmounted would fit in one of our basement compartments.

It’s amazing how much you can save on parts when you can buy them when you don’t need them. Example: I bought the slide motor for $300. From any of the usual suspects, it’s priced around $7-800. And all the spare parts fit
Nicely in a plastic bin under the bed.
As for the unmounted spare, I’m still searching for the best way to carry it. Heat shrunk in plastic to protect it from the environment. In the back of the Wrangler? On the ladder? Rooftop? Under the Rv?

I've wasted hundreds, maybe thousands on parts etc I've never used and gave away when I sold the vehicle.
On the other hand parts you carry probably won't have a break down. It's the parts you didn't carry you need....
Tools are the same way.
Besides in the lower 48 there are parts houses everywhere. 1-2 day delivery is always available.
Yes I do carry lots of tools and a small box of parts.

I just ordered some of the 1/2" Pex plastic pipe elbows to carry as spares. These things are used all through the motor home plumbing yet not readily available locally.

I agree with points on both sides of this issue but being a mechanic will bring tools and suspect spares with me. The fuel filters are a must, period, must have IMO. Other things, well, you decide

I have been wondering about the spare tire thing also so I appreciate the heads up on the Roadmaster tire carrier. A bit pricey but having tires that are very hard to get, can get you going much faster.

I don't go out of my way to buy spare items just to carry with me but I do see the value in knowing what items you might expect to need so great question. Agreed though, if you have it, you may not need it.

I would likely throw some engine coolant, maybe some radiator stop leak (just for an absolute emergency), generator belt, generator filters, spray lubricant, a mat, rug, or something "thin" than you can lay on under the coach in case you have to go under it and can't raise it much, maybe a heavy duty jack, good flash lights, fuses, solder, solder iron, wiring diagrams, owners manuals, a few misc pieces of hardwood, and so on

All that assuming you can do anything with those items if you need to

Attachment 233814Oh and on thing regardless of if you take spares with you or not and something we should all do, locate in your records the specification sheet for the coach.

It will have model and part numbers (and when relevant serial numbers) of the major components installed in the coach.
It is a pretty good list and would give you a huge jump on technical service if you have an issue on the road.

I think on my coach there is a specification sheet in the bedroom that covers some things but I got the big list from Monaco (REV Group) as I could not find the original in the documents that came with the coach.

Someone posted one time about carrying their unmounted spare on the roof .

They placed it around the vent pipe IIRC so it couldn't slide off but it never moved .

Don't know how he got it up there .
