Howdy y'all,
As old as I'm getting, 55-60 in anything is a SAFE speed for me and SAVES $$ on
fuel, too, also!!! I try to stay on the 'blue' roads or 'pig-trails' and ENJOY & SEE the country.. Even on those 'slow' roads we see RVs, who undoubtedly have chosen the 'slow' roads, SPEEDING BY at 65-70mph; I guess they are in a hurry to GET THERE!!! I HATE SUPER-SLABS!!! Y'all have a great trip, go slow & save
money!!!

My cruise is set for 62 mph. That's what I drive when the posted limit is either 60 or 65 mph. On country two lane roads where the posted limit is 55, I set my cruise to that.
I chose 60-65 and it looks like many others did the same.
Of course all of this is on dry roads in perfect weather conditions. When the weather, road or traffic conditions change, I adapt to the changing conditions.
The most important aspect of driving a long heavy rig like mine is to have FULL control of the rig at ALL times.

I usually stay at or very near 60 mph for best combination of speed and fuel economy, and to stay in 6th gear. Below 57 mph Coach wants to downshift, above 60 mph fuel burn goes up exponentially!

I prefer to run at 65 if the road conditions permit since this is where I get my best fuel economy at 8.5 to 9.0. When I slow to 55-60 I will loose 1 to 1.5 MPG

As my screen name implies I keep it at about 62 mph and that speed lets me stay mostly in the right lane. I also make sure the Allison is in 6th to get the best MPG.

Just a side note...........my 6 speed Allison wouldn't go into 6th gear unless I was going 67mph. So most of my driving was in 5th gear with lousy mileage. After "chipping" the ISB340 I sent the TCM to Coburg Detroit Diesel and had it re calibrated so now the TCM aka transmission goes into 6th gear at 55mph. Mileage more then doubled. No thanks to the EPA. deSanford

1.5---between 60 & 62 seems to be the sweet spot for the engine and works just fine for us.

We like to enjoy the ride and get the best mpg possible so we keep the cruise control on 61-62 mph. This keeps us in 6th gear most of the time and we rarely have to change lanes to pass anyone.
