That is an interesting article. It makes me wonder how many distributors are pulling a scam on their customers - the quick lube places? I can see where the problem could actually be further up the food chain in some cases.

When I was a truck/diesel mechanic back in the 70s-80s, all the over-the-road trucks had Luber-finer filters. It was a top quality product then. They were all cartridge filters then.
I don't know anything about the product now.

Fleetguard makes their own filter. Has been this way for many years. Some oddball filters are not made by any of the big mfrs. If there is not much demand they buy them on the open market. Often from Champion ( not the spark plug company. This applies to many of the large air filters in DP's. They come from the original supplier of the air filter. Just a different box. Donaldson makes good filters. The share a plant with Cat and make both in the same plant. Both FG and Donaldson offer a premium filter at extra cost. Different media. Wix does not!

A good source of free 5 gallon buckets with locking lids is most any big grocery store or big box store that bakes and sells custom cakes. The cake frosting comes in 5 gallon buckets and they are usually happy to not have to deal with them once they are empty.
Besides the kids, both little and big, like to clean them up before the used oil goes in.[emoji39]

500 ISM...11 gal Oil .................................................. $ 143.00
Quality Oil Filter .................................................. .......$ 35.00
Total .................................................. .......................$ 318.00
I do my own. I have a Fumoto drain Valve and use 5-gallon drain pans and I also pick up the empty 5-gallon containers from the local car wash that they get their soap and wax in and they have screw on lids fill them with the used oil and drop them off at the local facility that collects used oil. Do it my self is a bit of an inconvenience but know that it's done correctly and spend the good part of a day nosing around.
As far as the price a quality shop gets to do the job?

I have been hanging out at RV websites for over 20 years. First with diesel trucks and towables and now with a diesel motorhome. It is amazing the emotion that can be stirred with just the mention of oil. Looks like oil changes can also get folks excited.
