Spice Rack Removal

I've been fighting with my dead microwave and after much help from this forum, I've come to where it must be removed/replaced.

I know there are two long mounting bolts on the bottom which I have located, but the top bolts are hidden by the spice rack. I need to remove it and can't figure out how. There are no visible screws holding the spice rack in place.

Can anyone tell me how to remove this rack?Click image for larger version

I don't have the spice rack, but I would bet it is held in place with just a few pin nails.

I don't have a spice rack, but do you have carpet inside the spice rack? If so, it might be glued down covering countersunk bolts. try gently pulling up a carpet corner with some pliers.

Nope......no carpet, no screws in the cabinets, no sign of pin nails but can't rule them out. I'm wondering if the backsplash is just a pressure fit. I'll try and pull it forward/out tomorrow. Please keep the ideas coming. Someone must have dealt with this before me.

Have you tried loosening the two long rods that run from the underside of the oven, into the rear mounting bracket?
If the front of the oven starts to lower, that's all you have.

Hi Stan, have you gone up on line using your model # and download the microwave installation manual. This will show you where hand how the mounting bolts are located. Might give you a clue where to look.

You don't need to remove the rack. See the Installation manual.

Monaco 'usually' adds the extra support screws from above into the microwave cover. Your not going to find these in the oven owners manual. There would be no need for them if the oven is installed in a home.

I removed the original micro from our Monaco last summer. The only bolts holding it were the two long ones that enter from the bottom. I installed the new micro the same way and it's solid as a rock.

Yeah, it's not going to hurt anything to try loosening those two long bolts. If the front of the oven starts to lower, your in business!

Mine had 3 additional screws under the floor of the cabinet above the oven, screwing into the oven cover.

Irishguy and Ben triggered my memory. Back when my coach was new, the micro did start to sag. Sure enough, I only had the bottom bolts holding it up. Nothing on top. I ended up putting the upper bolts in the cabinet from above to 'suck' the microwave up snug with the cabinet.

You may not even have those upper bolts.

I'm thinking that there are bolts in the unit from the top because when I removed the vent so I could remove the keypad, I was sure I saw a bolt coming in from the top left of center. It was visible in the grill duct. However I can't be positive it is a mounting bolt because I don't know if it is coming from the floor of the spice rack or if it might just be part of the case hardware. It is about 1/4" in diameter.

Irishguy: your response is encouraging. A two screw install would really simplify things.

Wideglide: I like your idea of loosening the long bolts to see if it drops. Given what the Irishguy said, perhaps only two were used. That would save a lot of extra fuss!
