Stain color for cabinets
I removed my front TV, and have rebuilt the cabinets. What color stain do I need to match the light oak cabinets in 2002 Ambassador.
Thanks
Pat

I would suggest trying a Golden Oak. That matched the oak in an 01 Ambassador that we had and I had done some woodwork in that, especially the TV. Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert

I agree. We found the match to be virtually perfect. Differences in grain from one board or panel to the next will only make it even easier to look like its always been there.

I redid the front cabinet to replace the dinosaur tv to a flat screen tv on my 07 neptune a month or so ago. Mine was listed as light oak as well. My finish cabinet guy used red oak and just sprayed a glossy lacquer finish on with no stain. The match was perfect.

The interior renovations we have done in the interior of our coach over the last few years involved changes to cabinetry and the addition of new woodwork and trims.
Our cabinets are light oak. The stain needed on the new woodwork varied with the new oak material used. Some matched perfectly with absolutely no stain, only a coat of lacquer. Others needed to be stained with Golden Oak stain, followed by a coat of lacquer. Others needed a specialty stain that I concocted from a mix of Golden Oak stain with a Light Oak stain, followed by a coat of lacquer to achieve an acceptable match. On some wood, I had to first use a sealer to prevent the stain from soaking in too deep into the wood and darkening it too much.
So, I guess my 2 cents is that a little experimentation may be needed to achieve the close to perfect match that you desire.

I took one of my doors in to Lowes and they were kind enough to take some stir sticks, stain them and then hold it next to the door that I brought in. My match was just plain Maple, but I don't own your same rig.

Hello - I have a 2002 Windsor with 'natural oak' (that is what Monaco calls it). When I used red oak (from Lowes) - just a spray of the gloss varathane was a perfect match. On another occasion I was given white oak (didn't know they were different) and I had to use a golden oak and then the varathane to get it to match.
As mentioned above, a little experimenting may be order.

I took one of my cupboard doors into a commercial stain shop and they mixed up a perfect match. Our cupboards were cherry wood and the new wood work we had done was all out of cherry as well. It took a few days for the new stain to be mixed. Hopefully this thought helps.

When I replaced the flooring and had to put down shoe mold, I took a piece of the old molding to Lowes and found a stain that perfectly matched, without having any mixed! Their stain color charts show the stain when applied to pine and oak. There's lots of difference in the color of the two so be sure to select the right one depending on which wood you will be using!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
P.S.- I just checked the can. I used the Summer Oak stain, and sealed it with polyurethane!

Also, the Monaco service center in Eugene OR can identify the stain color and give you a contact at Sherwin Williams in Portland, who can mix exactly the same stain that was used in the coach. They provided the stain to Monaco when the coaches were built.
My coach has Newport Cherry and I got a gallon of the stain from Serwin Williams for $65 shipped to my home in CA. Matches perfectly.
