stain on dash: removal suggestions?

It seems that our recently acquired 2001 HR Scepter has a roof leak. I stopped by the storage facility and found that the colored paper campground pass I left on the dash had gotten wet and left some of the dye on the vinyl dash. I tried Simple Green, dish soap, and window cleaner as I had that on hand but to no avail. Searches on the internet suggest diluted vinegar, laundry soap, and baking soda and combinations of those three.

Anyone have a silver bullet mixture or technique to get this stain removed?

We have had good luck with the Magic Eraser.

If all else fails. These folks can fix it. Fibrenew Leather Repair, Plastic, Vinyl, Fabric Restoration

They will color it back in addition to repairing tears, etc. Here's a link of what they did to my captain chairs. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f115/look...rs-335919.html

Gently try Mr. Clean magic eraser.....but most likely you will find that stain is impregnated into the material itself and if you don't be careful trying to remove it using abrasives ...you will scrub the texture right off the material...then you're in a heap of trouble.

Read post #3 because it is probably going to be the most reasonable route to go if you can't clean it off.

Happy Trails

What about that led lighting situation?...any resolution?

If magic eraser doesn't work some diluted bleach should work just test an inconspicuous spot. I used bleach for a similar stain from a posit note on the counter

Goof - Off You can get it at home depot or the like.

But please try it first on a not so obvious place, this stuff is potent.

Stick on Hula girl or bobble head, did that when I was a lot boy at a used car dealer 40 years ago on a cigar lighter burn, the car sold that way.

Just jokin! I hope you get it cleaned up nice.

perhaps a diluted oxyclean solution, though the hula girl has a certain appeal ;-)

I'm waiting for the non-polarized bulbs I bought from Amazon to make the trip from China. Plus, I've been wrapped up in honey-do's that's been keeping me busy during daylight hours but I'll be posting an interesting discovery here in a couple minutes.

So this evening I tried vinegar and laundry soap along with baking soda as an abrasive. I also went out and grabbed a Magic Eraser but the magic wasn't strong enough so I'm going to step it up. I'm thinking about a belt sander or a flame thrower. Also, I'm considering the hula girl option but with the stain as large as it is I'll need a hula girl about three feet tall.

Still interested in your suggestions.

Bleach will probably work because it removes the color. There isn't anything to clean off, the color soaked into the pores of the plastic.
