Starter hesitates

Lately when I go start my 08 Dynasty. I hear a click but starter does not engage. Try a second time and it starts right away. All my cables are fine. I have cleaned all the connections incliding the grounds. Could it be a starter solenoid? 425 ISL. Thanks

If you have an auxiliary start option that lets you start the engine from the rear you may want to exercise the buttons and check the relays.
Another member had the same symptoms and ultimately found a bad relay.

Before suspecting the starter mounted solenoid, there is another starter relay ( solenoid ) back near the engine/ batteries.

They often hide them inside the chassis rails. The ignition key controls the start relay, the start relay controls the starter solenoid.

They do that so the wire run doesn't have to carry high amps 35 to 40 feet.

I have a ~6X6" box mounted on the wall above the engine. This is where the front/rear and start switches are mounted. There are relays in there.

I think Timaz had this problem last year and found one of the relays iffy.

For the price of a starter relay solenoid get one maybe a spare. I found mine by eliminating the house battery disconnect/salesman switch, it was warm from being on or someone can click it on and off for you. The boost solenoid will be the largest.

I found that starter relay . It is in the Rear run bay. Mounted to a circuit board. I think it might be soldered to the board. I toggled the rear/front switch in that box I checked all my grounds. Most of my cables are new. Batteries pass a load test. Turn the key once and it clicks. Turn key again and it starts right up. Could it be the ignition switch? The 2 smaller locking relays by the BigBoy are new. Big boy has been rebuilt.

Starter relay. Or cable connections between relay and starter.

I am going to have a sign painted for my shop. It will be on the wall next to the toolbox. " Always look for the simplest solution" I am always looking for some complicated solution. Everything was fine but one termbnal on the chassis batteries was loose. Tightened it and tried the starter 5 times. Never failed. I wil also try it in the morning, I feel dumb! Thanks for the help!

Glad you have it fixed K.I.S.S. first. But... I still think that cube relay drives the starter pilot solenoid relay , that pulls in starter bendix relay where the big amps contacts are to crank the starter. The bendix solenoid is real fast and powerful ,that's why very high amp contacts hold so well. The surge is too much for a soldered on relay. That's why they typically use approx. 100 amp pilot solenoids. I know I have replaceable cube relay prior to my pilot solenoid.

Yup,

I had to change the alternator in my wifes van, I had taken both the + & - terminals off battery and put them back on when I was done. Started it several times to check everything >> All ok

Then a couple days later my wife drove it to the gym and when she was done it wouldn't start. She called me. I was expecting the worse but I popped the hood and checked the belt and then battery cables, the negative was loose. Got the thing started and did a bettery fix when she got it home.

She still hasn't learned to check the simple things, but I can't teach the old dog new tricks.

KISS is always the way to go.

My problem ended up being the Front/Rear switch. I took it apart and cleaned it but it was a short fix. I put a new one in from Amazon and no issues.
