Step only works when key is in ignition in On position

My entry step will only work when the key is in ignition and in on position. it will then only operate with the door position.

Thats the way minre works as well except I do have a power switch by the door that bypass's the ign. switch - still have to open and close door or use magnet to make switch on door frame.

Check your sales switch should work without key in ignition.

gizzerly; Welcome to iRV2.

Always best to include , coach and step manufacturer info when asking questions .
You can set up a signature line , by clicking the " Quick links " drop box in the blue line under your welcome message, then " Edit Signature" type in your info and click " save " at the bottom of the page. Your info will automatically appear below a line on your post ( as mine does below this one)so you don't have to type it in every time.

I took me a few months to discover what the 'step' switch on the panel by the door did.

If the ignition is on, the door step goes in and out as the door is closed or open.

If the ignition is off and the salesman (labeled "battery" on the panel) switch is off, the step doesn't move.

If the ignition is off and the saleman switch is on, the step goes in and out if the step switch is on or stays where it is if the step switch is off.

And just to make it more complicated, if the steps aren't exercised every few weeks, they don't work until the step motor is tapped with a hammer.

Now that I've got the switches all figured out, I can usually work the steps as needed.

If this is a Kwikee step, it takes three separate good ground for it to function correctly. Check your switchology first, then chase grounds.
