Step well cover will not extend.
2004 Holiday Rambler Endeavor 40 PST
The electric step well cover will not extend. When I activate the switch I hear the motor making a clunk sound.
How can I get the step to extend with out doing damage?

I can't remember the details but ours quit working because something came loose. Have you tried to pull the cover out?
Here is a long thread with lots of information and photos. It might be helpful.

I did a quick search and found there is a lot of reading you can do that
will most likely have an answer for you .
Here is a link to the list .
http://www.irv2.com/forums/search.php?searchid=24378851
I found this by clicking on search , not the one top right with google but
the one just under it . When it opens select advanced search .
Many options there , I typed in step cover then selected Monaco .
Good luck

My step is air actuated, but I don't know if your HR is or not. Can you hear air movement when you push the extend button?

When our step cover has been stuck, in or out, I have simply pulled or pushed on the cover while pressing the switch. It then loosened up. I try to lube all of the moving parts annually.

That's what tried 2 weeks ago. The cover popped loose, turns out ours has. Spring loaded attachment. I grabbed the end of the shaft with pliers and twisted as wife pressed switch. It started, then lubed just like you describe. Reattach spring clips.

If the cover is stuck closed as he implied then he wont be able to get under
to do much of anything .
When he reads all the links posted he will know more about the step cover than
the people that designed the thing .
It may be necessary to remove the front or top if it can't be pulled out with
the help of someone operating the switch .
The most common problem seems to be one side of the " Y " mechanism
underneath coming loose .
If nothing is broken , the loose part can usually be reattached by working up
under the cover from outside the door way .

Agree with BARMCD, on my 06 Camelot it is air activated and if you are parked and have low air it will not extend, you will however hear the switch making a noise like it should extend. Good Luck

The OP ( Robert ) said his step cover is elect .
Monaco was not consistent or so it seems , some are elect and some are air .
Perhaps it's an Oregon versus Indiana thing .

My 06 came from the factory that way I think. When I got it, the cover would not extend with the motor. The motor is turning a long bolt. The step is connected to this bolt by a v shaped bracked with the nut to ride on the turnng bolt. The ends of the v bracket conect to the step; mine were not connected. Simply motor the bolt to its extend position, and then a little bit back towards retract. Then you can manually pull the cover out where you can compress the legs of the v bracket and attach them to the obvious position on the underside of the cover. BOOM, step cover works with the electric switch. 1/2 beer job at most and the wife will think you are soooo wonderful and talented and what in the world she would do without you.
